Lesson 2 complete and already upsetting instructors. Actually, I was warned to not do something during lesson 1. Seems I am looking at the gauges too often. Being trained for VFR (Visual Flight Recognition) flights. I guess playing with a simulator for a year or 2 created a lot of bad habbits. They emphasize the 3-finger rule for the crusing attitude, or level flight, where the hand controlling the throttle (most of the time) is to be placed on the dash in a way as to see 3 fingers worth of distance between the dash and the horizon. That works in theory, but add turbulence and things change. To add to these challenges, my brain wants to enter meditation whenever a situation feel like heaven with respect to turbulence. Call me crazy, like the marine in Aliens, when he falls asleep during the extreme turbulence felt went the transport craft is going through the drop. I equate these moments to a busy mind being counterbalanced. Besides that, the new instructor is from another country, which means saying things in a different way than someone originally from North America, so a few extra moments are needed to carry out his instructions, and a teaching technique different from the previous instructor.
Maintaining the requested altitude of 3,000 feet is tough when the plane drops by 20 feet or more every few minutes, or when the instructor gives you an instruction, and the wind tilts wings into the opposite direction.
Landing and communicating with the tower are lessons for another day.
They rate you from 1 to 4, with 4 being perfect. I come away happy expecting a 2 but being given a 3. So onto the next lesson of climbing and descending, which puzzles me. I thought spending so much time correcting for the loss of altitude would count for that lesson. Much to learn. Call me crazy, but afer sitting through a boring lecture on Air Law, I asked the president of the flying club if I could create an animation for that part of the class. He seemed enthusiastic about the idea. So, another project to begin after completing the sci-fi feature movie
Now trying to balance time between preparing for the next ground school class, the next flying lesson, and finishing work on the feature movie. Besdies that, sqeezing a full time job as a clerk for the Federal Government of Canada.
