The Krewe of Brid(say breed), Lakeview's all-female marching club, will make its second annual march with the sports theme: "Brid's Got Balls." The march starts at 6:00pm on Friday, February 6, 2009. The route begins on Harrison Avenue at the Orleans Avenue Canal and then proceeds on Harrison Avenue to Milne Blvd., then returns on Harrison Avenue to the Orleans Avenue Canal.
Brid is an ancient Celtic triple goddess. Brid and her two sisters are all named Brid. Phyllis Montana-Leblanc, Brid of the Spirit-Goddess of Arts & Letters:
Phyllis showed us all her moxie in Spike Lee's documentary about the 2005 levee failures. Her account of her experiences during and since the 2005 levee failures, in "Not Just The Levees Broke" was published in August 2008. Phyllis inspires to us all to stay strong and to keep focused on what is most important: faith, hope and love.
The Krewof Brid honors the Irish immigrants whose work building the New Orleans Basin Canal set the stage for the founding of Lakeview. The Krewe of Brid honors the women of New Orleans who work now to rebuild all the neighborhoods of New Orleans.
