What are the true origins of the contents of the Bible? The answers may surprise you.
As you are sitting there, reading this article, stop for moment and check your head. No, I don't mean reach up and touch it to make sure it is still attached to your shoulders, I mean take a quick mental inventory. What is inside your head? Right now? What are you thinking? Your thoughts, your beliefs, your identity, what exactly are they? And more importantly, who put them there?
Most of the thoughts surrounding you are a result of an organized society. As mankind evolved and grew in to larger and larger groups, it became much easier for people to collectively think the same thoughts, to make life easier and reduce conflict.
The question is, who came up with these ideas, and thoughts? What organization is responsible for creating the memes that we live by? If you take a step back from your awareness and examine these ideas objectively, you'll see that most of the concepts in western society are deeply rooted in the teachings of the Catholic Church. The entire Bible, which is obviously one of the most widely read book in the world, was effectively edited, and put together by a group of Catholic Bishops in the third and fourth centuries. They decided what went in, and what was left out. Most people have some kind of understanding that the actual writers of the Bible may have been inspired by God, but it wasn't until three or four hundred years later that the Church took all the written works that were being circulated at that time, and decided what was to remain in the Canonical teachings of the Church, and what would be left out.
That small group of men, however they decided, were to shape the entire course of western history by their choices. Great stories of literature, government bodies, societal laws, and even our very names that many of us are given at birth come from that book, compiled and edited by some fourth century bishops who no doubt realized the power that they held over others. So the obvious questions are, why did they decide what to put in, and why did they decide what was to be left out? The answers may surprise you.
