The Immorality of Conservatism
Conservatism
Noun. A state of ideology consisting of a group of sinister ideologues who seek to dominate and control others for their own personal economic and political advantages. Once established, they seek to retain these advantages for their offspring in perpetuity via inheritance laws.
In verb form, conservatism means to organize and to perpetuate a rigidly entrenched tyranny masterminded by plutocrats, and executed by legislative puppets, in which the bottom 90 percent of a population are locked in servitude to the top 10 percent.
In this essay I will argue that conservatism as practiced in the United States is evil by design, it is morally corrupt in application, it is intellectually insulting to those who seek freedom in their personal lives, and it is therefore unworthy of respect by anyone.
Conservatism is a form of totalitarianism masquerading as freedom. It purports to cherish democracy, patriotism, and the Constitution while it manipulates and controls. The difference between conservatism and other ideologies is that it is cloaked in the guise of legitimacy by laws, conceived by its masterminds, written by their legislative puppets, and held in place by superficial mantras such as “the rule of law;” or “we are a nation of laws;” or “no one is above the law.” Enforcement of these laws relies on applying them predominantly against those in poverty created by the economic vacuum when wealth is diverted from them to the wealthy. It also requires a rigid mindset of protecting that diverted wealth by the indoctrination of a vast network consisting of police, courts, prosecutions, and a prison system held together into an amalgam by other mantras, e.g., “justice for all” and “justice is blind.” It is the antithesis of justice.
The devil is in the details. Conservatives are at work diligently and continuously seeking to reign in and to circumscribe their control of how money and assets accumulate and flow to the top. Equality of opportunities or in outcomes has no place in their creed, planning, or execution. They have neither sympathy nor empathy for those who fall victim to their efforts. Indeed, they deny having played any part in the poverty they cause in the wake of their plundering by asserting that the poor and the disadvantaged are the cause of their own circumstances. Nevertheless, in the marketplace contracts protect lenders against borrowers; employers against employees; while risks are shifted away from owners of commerce onto tax payers; tax exclusions are granted to the wealthy under the false premise of “job creation.” Although excessive tax advantages cause budget deficits, balance is sought by cuts in programs for the poor, the sick, the disadvantaged, and the aged.
Conservatives seek a host of advantages based on wealth: in health care; in education; in control by exclusive associations; in military service; in employment; and in an overarching advantage based on inheritances. Politically, they write the voting laws that deny or impede the disadvantaged from voting; they rig voting districts via gerrymandering; they impose personal hardships by making voting registrations very difficult; and they fund a vast propaganda network of lies and distortions across all media in which the bottom 90 percent are bombarded incessantly with outrageously false messages and promises.
Deceit, dishonesty and control run rampant in all they do. The wealthy are notoriously absent from the battle fields, yet they are first to advocate wars; they want to spend more and more on preparations for wars; while they cast aspersions on the character of those who dissent. They seek to become commander-in-chief of armies in which they have not served, to plan for battles they have never seen, and to let others die in service they have avoided. They see no contradiction in the words at the base of the Statue of Liberty and in our immigration laws: “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free” while building walls and making immigration extremely difficult for those who do not look like they belong in the top 10 percent. They tout freedom of religion while embracing bigoted religious fundamentalism; they rally support from those who seek solace in their lives who genuinely practice religion by making false appeals to their beliefs; and they make dishonest appeals to patriotism by proclaiming they are motivated by duty, honor, and country.
To sum up, conservatism is an ideology that is devoid of compassion; that embraces elitism by wealth; that mocks achievement and achievers; that relies on principles over facts; it is aggressively self-centered; it relies of opportunism; it discounts science and intellectualism; it follows consequentialism in that the ends justify the means; it rejects logic and reason in favor of authoritarianism; and it falsely proclaims it is aligned with God and country; or with life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It reeks of disdain for others while taking as much from them as it can without a conscience or a soul.
