Of Great Societies and the Seat of Power

How many times in history have we seen the demise of "great societies"? How many people have believed theirs was the one that was going to persist and bring heaven to earth? What have we learned from that?
From what I see, less than nothing. Does today's "great society" - especially that of the Western world - think it can escape the consequences of its acts against all that we know to be right, just, good and proper?
From the time we stepped into kindergarten we were brainwashed to believe that ours was and is, the greatest society on earth. Our values are what makes the world turn. Were it not for them, the world would go down into total chaos and disorder. We believed our system stood for justice, peace, freedom. We believed our political processes were truly democratic - and somehow that is automatically better than any other system.
For this great society, the sand is running down to the bottom of the glass and there is no one left with the strength to turn that glass around that it may endure another cycle. The revolutions have been fought and the reasons why forgotten. Powers have switched thrones and moved back to their old places. There is no "left" and no "right" - no one left who is right - only greed and massive corruption; the rich sucking the earth dry and creating more injustice and strident poverty even in countries that were once thought to be the hallmark of what human society should be.
We were taught to fear disorder so we would accept any kind of order. We have accepted the new world "order" and installed corporate fascism as tyrant. Yes, now we have order. We can order anything and it will be delivered to our door. Even if a half-dozen Philippino children have to die in the process of producing and delivering a $20 coffee pot - so much the better: less mouths to feed.
I heard another of those stories that go around in the underground: that the powers that be have set-up a whole new "order" for the coming years not based on capitalism. They won't need consumers anymore. That means 4/5 of this planet's population is excessive. 80% of earth's population has to be eliminated so these new tyrants can enjoy life as they plan. If you wonder what the remaining 20% are for, think. Humans, properly controlled, are still better slaves than machines. Especially in providing personal "comforts". Say one billion humans to provide slaves for the rich - a bit rich maybe, but one must be safe. Later when artificial intelligence is fully integrated with human life, that number can be safely decreased again to, say, 100 millions? Sex slaves and a secure gene pool?
This scenario, of course, assumes no interference. It assumes that earth is untouchable; that all such decisions are left to those who rule the affairs of men from this level. This may be so... it's not my contention.
The next rather loud question is: if there is to be intervention, will it come from the Empire led by Darth Vader - or from a rag-tag group of freedom fighters who continue to defy the forces of the Imperium and win improbable battles through luck of mis-management?
What if there were a third alternative, one proposed time and again over the millennia but studiously ignored? What if the "intervention" is simply within the mind of one individual who no longer sees "reality" from the badly written comic books of the Powers? What if the power that will bring these horrors down is you - just you - alone - un-aided and un-abetted? Just because you woke up one morning and said, "I need a better answer" and in doing so opened a hatch leading to the center of your mind where the workings of universal power remained hidden?
What if's: properly lined up they provide leverage to topple any belief system.
--What is really strange about this, is that most people either know this truth, or they shy away from it; however, I meet very few people who actually want to think about this topic and somehow do something to influence the world on their own. For example, I became a vegetarian to be kind towards animals and help the environment, but I often am ridiculed for my morals and beliefs; on the other hand, many people refuse to even do anything to help, yet they live off of the scraps of the system, and are still enslaved to the rich and powerful.

--I think these people are clearly psychopathic, without a conscience. I have often wondered myself, "How do we get them out of power, without using physical violence?"

As I read this I was reminded of an old George Orwell novel I read while in high school No, "I'm not talking about "1984" although that might apply, too. I read a story he wrote called "Animal Farm." I have mentioned to my wife many times, I fear that is what is happening to our nation. To be more precise to us. If you have never read it you might find it very educational, even if it is a fairy tale.

Our values are what makes the world turn.
I think what's wrong with society is that the value of our moral values and family values are being lost in the fast pace we are living in. I believe in family values and I make sure I instill them in my teenagers.
Hopefully your article will open other's eyes and keep the family values alive...since they are the core of all being.
