An article dealing with the concept of "time" from Sha'Tara...

The Prison of Time - Dust in the Wind

[voice from the other side - Sha'Tara]

"Time doesn't seem to pass here: it just is." (Fellowship of the Ring - in Rivendell)

Time: the background ticking of the Great Universal Clock built by the Time Lords aeons ago.

But what of time?  It is no more than a mere arbitrary measure, yet so much is made of it here - and on other worlds.  It is nothing - nothing at all within infinity.  The flow of life and its seasons are none of them bound by the concept of time.  Time may, for some, measure their doings and their passing, but time does not cause any of it.

The great flow existed before time was invented and will continue on, after time ceases to exist.

Therefore, time as a concept of power, is a most terrible prison because it is believed in while yet a complete illusion.

It has become such an important aspect of human life.  As is the case with money, the symbol has supplanted the reality of things.  Decadent thinking leads to death - the legacy of time-bound thinking.

So think, could acceptance of "Time" as a Power be one of the aspects of life on Earth that continue to foil Earthians as they seek to make their place in the world truly better?  Could it be the cause of the continuing demise of all great societies and the tragic failure of man's hopes of a better life to ever manifest?  Why all we accomplish becomes nothing but dust in the wind?

Dust in the Wind -- Kansas

I close my eyes
Only for a moment, then the moment's gone
All my dreams
Pass before my eyes, a curiosity
Dust in the wind
All they are is dust in the wind.

Same old song
Just a drop of water in an endless sea
All we do
Crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see
Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind.

Now, don't hang on
Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky
It slips away
And all your money won't another minute buy
Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind

Dust in the wind
Everything is dust in the wind
Everything is dust in the wind

THanks for sharing such deep thoughts Reg. That old song still rings clearly through my thoughts...we really are all "dust in the wind". Just reminds us that life is short, so live it now.

Hi Regis.
Love the piece, love the song/poem, now and before.

It's a phenomenon of language, I suppose, but isn't it interesting that even when we attempt to put boundaries on time, we have to speak in terms that are inate to time. For example, let me quote from your piece:

"The great flow existed before time was invented and will continue on, after time ceases to exist."

"Before" and "after" can't be thought in any other respect than with regard to time, which is, after all, a chronilogically ordered sequence of moments, if we want to think in terms of increments. I think that a better way of conceiving it is as a chronological spectrum without beginning or end.

Essentially we have no linquistic tools to express boundaries to Time. Just an observation from a friend.
Best regards,
Leland

Wow! No what I was thinking. Isn't it great our hope for Eternal life rests with Jesus?

Oooohhh, some deep thoughts, Reg.

Time Think - as I exist in my later years, time passes much too fast from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., Yet, in that same space of time, a child sits anxiously at school to arrive home only to wait, wait for dinner, and time creeps by so slowly for him/her. Same amount of hours/minutes/seconds in both cases, but oh, so different for each!

Interesting concept...

Time is relative to how we appreciate each and every minute and how much we derive from our experience. Good poem.

Everything might be dust in the wind, but I know Who holds tomorrow and I know without a doubt whatsoever, God holds my hand. Time slips often quickly, loosely, conveniently, tramadically (sp), but we are promised but the "present from God" - Today!

Totally, the time illusion is a cause of much suffering on the planet. Knowledge of time as a measurement does not even yeild more time. There are are many thoughts of all time existing at once. Time travel novels from H G Wells to Doug Adams tease at what physicists ponder. I like Tom Stoppards thought of, "how for all the directions on the compass, we each have one. And time is it's only measure." {Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead}
Great writing Regis. I see how Kansas alludes to us as dust. I'd rather think of us as light. "One light...Light that is one though the lamps be many" Incredible String Band..age myself there a bit. : )

Good piece,Regis, Sometimes I feel that Time lives in us rather than we live in it. Ever notice that when we are busy time "flies"and on the other hand, when we have to do a boring chore time "drags?" To me it's an internal thing. So I agree with you, Regis, Time IS an illusion and has no external reality..Who Knows, maybe we are younger than we think we are !

Time fly's on wings of lightning, we cannot call it back.
It comes then passes forward along it's onward track.
And if we are not mindful, the chance will fade away,
For life is quick in passing, 'tis as a single day.

An extremely timely message, Reg. If you will forgive the pun. If we are counting time, do we count in seconds, minutes, hours, days or centuries. If we are counting time have you ever considered how long our life lasts here on Earth in the eyes of God.

You said this well.
God Bless,
Lew

Vapour, mist, wilting flower, fades away are other descriptions of life and its longevity. Timely reminder, Regis. We can place too much value on the things that decay rather than what is essential to our eternity.
