An article by Sha'Tara...

Have no Expectations from Anyone

[voice from the shadow worlds of Sha'Tara]

There is no doubt in my mind now that the legitimate "path of the Avatar" is a strange one.

We have our heroes and heroines in fiction, fantasy, fable and even in historical events and their efforts make us feel good, especially when it all turns out for the best and they live happily ever after.  We get so used to reading about them that we think we know what it means.

But no matter how many times we are told those tales, or how many times we let our feelings engage those lives, we have absolutely no idea what it means.  For the essence of the path of the Avatar can only be gained by experience.  To loosely quote a friend, "prayers are answered only when we are already in the process of doing that which we are praying for.  That's how the "law of attraction" works..."

In pondering this walk I experienced a new revelation this week.  What I realized came as a real shock.

I am not entitled to anything from anyone.  No one owes me anything.  If there is a debt, and there always is a debt on such a world as Earth, then it is mine to repay, not yours.

We are pestered with the beliefs that we have rights.

We are entitled to being treated fairly and courteously by all, at all times, no matter what; not to be intimidated or molested; not to be subjected to racial prejudice, even if we are prejudiced in that regard, or to sexual advances, no matter how we behave or dress; not to be persecuted for our religious beliefs though we can impose them on others door-to-door or on public street corners.

We have a right to health care, no matter how negligent we are of our personal health; owed at the very least a high school education even if we don't even make the effort to learn effective verbal communication; entitled to federally mandated leisure time; to decent accommodation; to personal protection and the list grows daily.

Conversely while the list of "entitlements" grows, more innocent victims die daily at the hands of the same system that guarantees those entitlements.  Anybody care to figure out why that is?

The Avatar knows already that she is entitled to none of that.  Her life belongs to the people and the world she serves, whatever form that service may take.  That life is expendable and in knowing this she loses her attachments, her dread, her fears, her uncertainty.  She realizes that on Earth there is only one person who desperately needs to change for the better: herself.  No amount of "Alpha courses", of mission statements, of positive thinking admonitions can do that for her.

The Avatar takes a system that promises heaven and delivers hell and with her own will power, turns it on its head.

I have no rights.  I have no entitlements.  My only purpose on this world is to serve others.  I will not limit myself to sharing, I will give, expecting nothing in return.  Only then can I discover the true source of the energy I receive to weave into gifts of service in the long nights' vigils.  Thus will I change myself and inexorably, change my world.

Already my thoughts are turning toward the meaning of Christmas.  Away from the traditionally false merry-making to that rare place where one individual chooses to become a gift unto others, forfeiting all personal gain in the exchange.  Already this sense of communion with a world in need is coursing through my heart as a kind of seduction.  Already I feel its power rising within me.

With this kind of intense empowering, wouldn't it be greedy to the extreme to expect something from those who have little enough to spare and are about to be fleeced by a heartless marketplace whose mastery relies on manipulating human feelings, desires and lusts?

I like the take on Christmas here; that is a new, refreshing and I'd say healthy way to approach the season and the spirit - we have become paranoid of anything truely free, fearing perhaps we are being baited or trapped? I dn't know, but I offered some free music around Christmas from my CD and few took me up on that - perhaps thinking I am only hard selling (I am promoting but free is free when it is free but can't ALWAYS remain free in this world - due to "predation"
have a nice day...mike

Inspirational. I really found some answers to myself here. If I want it or need it, I need to go get it and not wait on others to do it for me. In my life, I see this as giving of myself more to the welfare of others. You are truly so right for this season and for the rest of the years also. Excellent. Liz

You elaborate on a great wisdom, my grandma used to say don't expect thanks in the giving, in giving you have already received it, and the more we give the more we receive, some do with just a loving touch, others with money or help, and you with your wonderful talent and write, and we have both and all shared a gift, that ultimately belongs to God who is all of us!Love and Blessings REG!Jasmin Horst

Regis,

This article says a lot about you as a person. Not everyone looks deeply in a mirror and sees room to grow; many are satisfied with their stagnant lives. I like how you admit to these realizations shocking you, because that is exactly what our deep-probing thoughts are capable of. There is a feeling of on-going search in this article. Very realistic since none of us truly have all the answers. Great article! -Sheila

REG... DEEP - THOUGHT PROVOKING -

It seems that man's perennial quest for the answer of "Why am I here?" is still being bandied about - always magnifying a simplicity into a complexity. Perhaps an endless search of futility? Suppose that there is no answer? Or any answer concocted to suit a person's NEEDS would suffice? Is it possible that there is no ONE answer? That each individual merely GRABS a thought, idea, premise, credo - not unlike a drowning man grasping a straw?

I chose mine 50 years ago - and it works for me!

"This above all else, to thine ownself be true. For as surely as night follows day, thou canst not be false to any man." From Hamlet - At age 17, I adopted this saying as my personal philosophy of life. It has never been regretted, as Honor and Integrity mean a great deal to me.

If there is any truth to the saying that "like energy attracts like energy" - maybe the other old saw 'we reap what we sow" may also ring true?

"I THINK - THEREFORE I AM!" Enjoy Existence! In the final analysis, that's ALL WE HAVE!

J-PAL ... Tom.

Very profound, and beautiful. It is beautiful when we open our hearts, minds, spirit to fill up with the desire to give to others, to do what we can with love. This is a great time of year to start if we have not already.
And Lew, I love how you put it as well.
May you all have a very blessed holiday season.

I agree to you for the most part. I owe myself. What I owe myself may be surprising to you though. I owe it to myself to be compassionate with others. I need to be a light and not someone who hides whatever talent I have under a cloud of do-nothings. The Earth owes me nothing. God owes me nothing. God gives life because it is a gift. It is up to me how I live it. However, if I can change the world for the better for just one other person, I have expanded my own soul.
God Bless,
Lew

Reg, You have certainly opened up a bag of thoughts. I personally, give without any expectations. It would be nice to receive every once in a while and that can even be in a form of "Thank You". After all isn't the cycle giving and receiving (energy anyway) each ignites the other?
Good Article. I enjoyed reading it.

"Have no Expectations from Anyone" it is a great write. There is one thing that I would like to point out. When someone prays, I wonder if he knows the real meaning of a prayer. Certainly one should never expect anything from anyone, but he should be always prepared to give
his best when he can, without any discrimnation. Since I value your writings, I would like to know who is Sha'Tara, if I may ask. Emile
