A poem by Sha'Tara, local writer and friend.

Sand to Sand

[a poem by ~Sha'Tara~ ]

Dust to dust, ashes to ashes,
so it was, so it is, so all must go.
But that is all so wrong—it's
dirt to dirt, isn't it? Wait, no: more accurately,
sand to sand. Each death, a grain of sand;
each grain of sand, another death.

Sand! Sand that blows in the winds;
collects at the bottom of the seas;
piles up in dunes on endless shores
and the deserts grow apace
from baked ground gaping blindly
as each day another garden dries
and brings more death, creates more
sand: such a healthy, deadly growth.

A desert was made of a world
and not from movement,
but from death—from billions of deaths;
uncounted deaths spanning endless time
and the sands whisper and slither
through sun-baked cracks, worm holes;
fill beetle tracks and crickets' holes.
never needing to ask permission.

A proper home for those destroyed,
are the sands of planet Earth
hissing out awaited revenge
upon the quasi-living knowing naught,
devoid of understanding remaining.
It's as if it was written in a Book
that so it must be, and that, forever.

all true...more reason to hurry up with upbeat poetry...if you sit around waiting to be overwhelmed by the dunes, your short, brief passage is useless,my friend...

Sand, sand everywhere, not a drop to drink,
but to seek an oasis wherever we go...I say.

A lot to contemplate in this piece!

Sand covering the beaches of the Riviera! Sand in children's sand boxes! Bad sand? Good sand? Sand in an hour glass? Sand covering a large land mass, a desert! Bad? Sand oozing from our minds? Sand, sand, sand! We created all of it? We created some of it? Should we begin reparations? Should we all die at once so we do not draw this dreadful process out any longer than need be? Should we begin "healthy earth" remediation? I bid you love and peace my dear friend. Jon Michael

Food for thought. And I thought of “Dune.” Over geological time, deserts come and go. But I believe you're talking about desertification caused by the activities of man.

SEEMS TO ME, YOU ARE GIVING THE 'EARTH' TOO MUCH CREDIT. SINCE THE EARTH WAS CREATED BY GOD AND THE 'CREATED' IS NEVER GREATER THAN THE 'CREATOR'...THEN...IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR FLESH/BODY. REMEMBER THAT IN THE BEGINNING, GOD TOOK THE DIRT, DUST OR SAND (WHATEVER YOU PREFER TO CALL IT) WHICH WAS NOTHING BUT EXISTING MATTER AND 'BREATHED' LIFE INTO IT. WHETHER OUR BODIES BECOMES DIRT, DUST OR SAND AGAIN(WHICH IT PROBABLY BECOMES A LITTLE OF ALL OVER A PERIOD OF TIME)IS UNIMPORTANT. IT IS THE SOUL, WHICH IS THE LIFE OF THE BODY THAT IS IMPORTANT AND IT, UPON DEATH, RETURNS TO THE CREATOR...THE JUDGE...GOD. SO, WE HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR FROM THIS PLANET...IT IS GOD THAT WE 'REVERE'. AS THE WORD SAYS, "...FEAR NOT THEM WHO CAN ONLY DESTROY THE BODY...BUT HIM WHO CAN DESTROY BOTH THE SOUL AND BODY..." THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS & FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
