The Number One Problem of this Society

[thoughts from ~burning woman~ by Sha’Tara]

“Would you like the proper definition of the term “democracy?” It’s the tyranny of the minority cloaked in the mask of the majority.”

Observing gives me much to think about when it comes to this society of man, particularly when my observation focuses on the dying affluent society around me. Much I could say, much I have said. Decadent? Completely so. Immoral? No question. Greedy? And how! Selfish? To the core. Irresponsible? Utterly. Dirty and wasteful? One look at freeway borders, ditches and small rivers says it all. Dependent? Totally. Sociopathic and sadistic? Increasingly so. That unfiltered truth only touches the surface of it.

How did “we” get here from there? Wasn’t there a time, or weren’t there times, when man sought to better himself; when man believed he could break free of those forces that held him in bondage; that controlled his life; that told him what he should and should not believe and what he should do about it? Yes there was.

Man had seen the Church and basically all types of organized religion, for the oppression that it was and represented. He had looked at his employers and realized they were greedy exploiters who only cared about the bottom line. He had experienced the heavy whip of his established rulers: the invented nobility and attendant aristocracies. And he had died in their wars, their dungeons, their torture chambers, their fields and workhouses, over and over, and eaten the bread of affliction throughout those times. He knew. And he began to awaken in the only ways he knew how: through violent revolution and some disorganized efforts at non-cooperation. It weakened the System’s pawns, those bureaucrats who maintained the oppression and repression for the Matrix enough to cause some shock-waves.

But it didn’t bring about any fundamental change: throughout these struggles man did not evolve, either spiritually or mentally. The System rallied, as it always does, but in a truly amazing way. It cornered science and technology and converted overt oppression into the deeper, much more complex bondage of consumerism. The rebels of yesterday became the sated middle class. The only question asked by these enslaved Yuppies was, “How do I get more?”

And that’s society’s main problem: it doesn’t know how to ask questions because it doesn’t know that questions are not invented, they already exist and they must be discovered. Once you know that, it’s not so difficult because you realize everything ends in a question mark! Find the question, in, or at the end of, an observation, a thought, an idea, an event, an experience. Repeat the question, which is like asking the question. Do this for everything, collecting question upon question, then remain conscious (focused) long enough to at least begin to glimpse the answers that arise from the question collection. They won’t be the “right” answer (no such thing), certainly not the “only” answer (again, no such thing), just waves cracking and breaking-up the ice-coated Matrix reality.

The System appears to be an all-powerful thing but it isn’t. It is more like a series of spider webs, a weak combination of cobbled-together concepts based on lies and fear based on disinformation about everything! This amalgam creates a false view of life that relies entirely on blind obedience through careful, deliberate nurturing of ignorance for its continuity.

By ignorance I do not mean a lack of “education” but something much deeper. Ignorance is believing something that isn’t true simply because that represents the easiest path; the path of least resistance: the safest or the most self-satisfying. That is ignorance. Let’s have a look at the other side of ignorance.

Here’s a truism: If you would make a moral decision, you must abandon all sense of self-interest. Good is not the opposite of bad, or of evil; good is diametrically opposed to self-interest. A truly evolved being serves life by serving others and is constantly judged and purified by the fact that service is never about receiving. Any approach to service that carries a whiff of self-interest, of receiving something, is the poison that kills the intent of service.

And how did I arrive at this conclusion? By asking questions based on all my interactions and all my experiences. By not believing; by not trusting; by refusing to agree with any concept.

(There are many kinds of ignorance, Streggi. The basest is to follow your own desires without examining them. Sometimes, we do it unconsciously. Hone your sensitivity. Be aware of what you do unconsciously. Always ask: 'When I did that, what was I trying to gain?' " Frank Herbert: Chapter House)

Very interesting and I do agree with your definition of ignorance.. I always say that it is not lack of knowledge but the refusal to gan the knowledge needed.. Well done as always... Myrna

I have always said that we are too ignorant to truly understand ourselves. The fact is we came from genes that are territorial, and when pushed, we either fight or flee because it is hardwired in us. Our biggest problem is fear of the unknown. The Matrix has been developing since the first written word, until we have a complex set of religious and other moral rituals that protect us from the unknown (fear). From birth we are indoctrinated to the Matrix and to deal with our fear in an ignorant way as though we were primitive instead of 21th century world citizens with a wealth of knowledge dispelling all fears.

It's a sad state of affairs when we let ignorance rule us.

I don't ask questions about what I know. I ask them about what I don't know. The more answers I get the less I know!

Love ya!

This is a great write and your definition is correct when applied to the practice of our corrupt legislators here in the U.S.A. However, the correct definition, and the way it's supposed to be is this........... "government by the people; rule of the majority." It really is that simple.

This must be my assignment for the year. I haven't even finished the last one yet. Provocative, as usual, and well presented. Thank you both.
