An essay from Sha'Tara, local writer and friend.

You only fall in love for the first time once

(and blessed are those who never forget their first love)

[thoughts from ~burning woman~ by Sha'Tara]

You only fall in love for the first time once. Truism, but what did I fall in love for the first time with? An idea. It's called utopia. Somewhere, sandwiched between a hundred other ideas, oozing around like mayonnaise through a sandwich, squeezing through all the other aspects of a sandwich of ideas, there was this "impossibility" thought: that I could have something to do with making this world into a better place. No idea how, but no "why?" either. It seemed as if the "why?" didn't need questioning: the evidence was all around me. So I fell romantically in love with the concept of making other lives better. It would be many decades later before I realized the difficulty of making such a dream a reality; the personal costs involved and how much such a dedication would take from my own life; my own space. You can't have your cake and eat it too: one or the other, choose. But of course, all self-imposed "losses" in their turn become personal gain: detachment and self-empowerment - nothing trumps that. One you have that, you can't help but make your world a better place.

Because of that pre-teen dream, as the song says, "I was never the same again." Everything changed and I could never go back to the simple, the normal, of an Earthian life. Some things happen on life's highway, a "blowout" also called "near death experience" or some such thing, and you veer off into a mysterious dark lane, out of control, and get lost. And found. And if you find your way back to that old highway it will have lost its charm, its attractiveness. You will spend the rest of your life driving off the highway looking down dark alleys and lanes looking for those things that get overlooked in life's humdrum; in the rush of the hustle and bustle that leads in ever expanding circles until one circle's circumference is too long and the heart fails.

You can be a light in someone's night sky and you can be a burr under another's saddle. I have been a burr under many people's saddles over the years, and it matters not that the Bible claims that the feet of those who bring good news are beautiful: mine, I think, were beautiful but to me. My "good news" were seldom understood as such because, another truism, people as a general rule have no wish to change their ways and resent anyone who would dare suggest such a course of action. As I have quoted before, among Earthians the ape chant rules: "We're all right because we say we are, and if we say we are then it must be true ."

Good news isn't being told that we're all right. Anyone with two brain cells (and holding one back as a spare) can see that we're not all right. We're in a hell of a mess but as long as the status quo doesn't make a point of focussing on the mess - just on some politically advantageous bits of the mess, then it doesn't matter. Anyone daring enough to point out that the emperor has no clothes had better be a small child - truth from the mouth of babes and all that - because truth is not welcome among Earthian societies.

When I was a child I fell in love with this world. I stood on a rocky cliff by my home in Brittany and I saw an endless sea tossing beneath sky and wind. I looked up in the night sky and I saw the stars and they too spoke of endlessness; of infinity. I fell in love with a tiny planet spinning along within infinity. And I asked the questions: where is it all going? What lies beyond infinity? What's at the end of things?

Oh, never fear, there are any number of experts here who will supply a ready-made answer. God was the first explanation for infinity. The Big Bang was the second. They became interchangeable, and while the experts smugly lay back in their easy chairs, puffing on their pipes, satisfied to the gills with their wisdom, my mind rebelled against such unimaginative answers. First of all, such answers have no proof of truth in reality. Second, they are meaningless. Third, the people who wallow in such simplistic reality are really quite ignorant.

Who's an ignorant person? One who is so sure of himself and of what he believes that he won't make any effort to verify the source and truth of his belief. This is true of both, the God and the Big Bang individual. There are people who don't know - in fact none of us know anything for sure - but if in honest humility you say, "I don't know" that doesn't make you ignorant, it makes you a seeker. The mind is designed to know and it never rests until it does. The trick is to never be satisfied with any "case closed" answer. Yes, we need to arrive at a "case closed" but only to lay one part of the puzzle of life to rest. A "case closed" means you enter into the next level of the game and it becomes more intricate, more confusing, more difficult. The game's name is "Infinity" and it's a wonderful game once you understand the necessity of playing it and you learn its rules.

A "believer" can never play life's game for he spends all of his life-time in a self-imposed mind prison. He has all the answers, however simplistic, however irrational or contradictory. He's got his hands around his king and believes that no matter how his opponent moves his pieces he can never check-mate him. A "believer" never plays by the rules because he knows that if he allows, even for one moment, the rules to apply to the game, he loses.

I went out on the River yesterday, and some of the above was provided for me after some interaction with the water, sand, mud, wind and trees. Earth spoke to me yesterday, a disturbing message which I hesitate to share, even here. But I will - maybe next time.

Indeed, I must say that the article is really a nice piece of work; it’s an interesting read, for what its saying. Nonetheless, with its many hints pointing into various directions, such as: The Bible, God, and even, the Big Bang’s Theory; it’s proving just one thing; the human’s race of a truth is falling into deeper confusion, because of unbelief.

Failing to believe that there is a real God, is not good! For instance, the Bible is the words of God, and the only direction for every human’s life. Well, over the years all this happened: one man broken up the table of stone, written by God, Himself. Another man cuts up into little pieces the Bible with a pen knife; many others just throw the words behind their backs; whilst, it’s like some others just trampled the words under feet.

All the same, guess what, all down the years those that failed to believe God and His words so far; they all died, leaving God and His words saying exactly the same thing yet. (“Sinners shall die”, and by refusing to believe God and His words, it’s a sin). Despite all that, however, there is a portion of the article, which I do in agreement with; it’s the portion that talks about believer.

In the Christianity world, there are too many quick to believe anything and everything. As a result, want to get rich quick deceiving preachers just using them as prey, which is not good! Believe in God, but be careful of words twisters, known as wolves in sheep clothing! God calls fools, but He doesn't keep them being fools, He educates them!

As the words in a song sang by Rod Stewart, "The first cut is the deepest.". That's no lie.

Yes, there is a growing mess that we have made of our planet and we are yet not able to change enough to do anything about it except complain. Or, as so many do, continue with their "beliefs" and drag society's solutions to the problems.

It is very hard to "know all the answers." I prefer to keep my ear to the ground and my vision clear to pick up on the warning signs and to change my life accordingly. So many follow the answers provided by their believer group and thereby avoid thinking about it by themselves, letting groupthink takeover. They are easily manipulated. All I can try to do it is live my life is an example for others, and hopefully they will pick up on the idea that change is always happening and we must come up with logical ways to either roll with it or consciously create change that deals with the problem at hand.

I got lost in a sea of confusion by reading this sad story. Where do we go from here? Well, it does not sound good. For me, living without God is simply not living. With God, I have access to many friends and family who helped me through the death of my first wife and other very difficult situations. For example, take the confusing world situation now. It was all explained to me as a part of God's long-term plan. Like a complicated operation, It may seemed difficult and things may hurt but the long-term results will usually be so much better. Without the operation, there may be little hope. Without God, very little hope. That is why most Christians quote this, "With man it's impossible, but with Jesus, anything is possible." The Lord waits at the door, but like a perfect gentleman, He will not force Himself upon anyone. A decision for a better life now and forever is ours to choose. Amen
