There’s Something Terribly Wrong with this Time

Quote: “There’s something terribly wrong with this time.” Is that a fair statement, or are these times just another spin of the global wheel, after which that front wheel comes out of the rut and mud all by itself, reacting to some magical universal law of repulsion, and all goes smoothly again? You’ll think what you want to think and draw your own conclusions – as it should be. And so will I. Except that I’ll tell you what I think based on nothing more than simple observation because, and in fact, there is no magical universal law of repulsion, my dear.
First, there is something terribly wrong with this time... these times. But it has little to do with whatever disaster, pandemic catastrophe or war dominating the ‘news’ so called. It’s not because of Ebola. Or ISIS in Syria or whatever is cooking in Hong Kong, if anything is still cooking there – they’ve probably turned off the gas and nothing is cooking, not even the rice.
For the sake of this argument, let’s glimpse at the recent Hong Kong pro-democracy protests. What was the main reason the protests fizzled? One protester said it on camera, but it should be obvious to anyone who has an understanding of history: the “movement” did not have a rallying focal point; did not possess a truly charismatic leader. I’m not talking about leadership, but about a leader. Someone who can make, no, let’s take it a step further and say “force,” what is but a crowd of disenchanted people, to turn as one and listen to one voice; someone who, with that one voice, can spell out one single, simple message that everybody hears and understands in the same way.
That’s the voice of “truth” that commands blind adherence to that truth. Someone whom the people understand to be, and accept as, that one voice, not the other way around. And for good or ill, that voice is the voice of the true magician – the one with the personal power to make real change, and note I’m not qualifying that change. The voice is all it takes because as long as you are listening to the voice you know exactly what to do and you don’t have to reason or rationalize any of it. You are only following and obeying the voice.
What’s wrong then, with this time, with this generation or this people? Having marched obediently to the varied and clashing tunes that led them to the foot of the global political and financial glue pot, they find themselves even worse off than the simple-minded hippies congregating at the famed 1969 Woodstock festival and getting stoned. Oh sure, thanks to “democracy” the gathered, milling crowds certainly don’t lack in political lackeys, and some like Mr. Obama can actually make a little pretend magic, but let’s not forget that his sort of magic is completely dependent on the current goodwill of the dispensers of the potion. All his tricks are set-up behind the scenes. He reads the instructions, he performs.
So I’ve narrowed down current global malaise to lack of charismatic leadership. Is that good enough? What if there’s a better reason, one that remains quite taboo because... well, let’s just see.
Sadly, and unbeknownst to man (but beknownst to us non-lineal thinkers) the man species is but a very recent addition to the Earthian zoo. To find man’s appearance in his specially designed gilded cage you only need to look into time’s old face some 200,000 years; some say 250 to 300 thousand years but why quibble? What’s 50 or 100 thousand years in geological time?
And what does that have to do with the current times, whether our ancestors were apes 50 million years ago or we suddenly appeared in our fully modern-man superior nakedness and helplessness 200,000 years ago?
Actually, everything. You see, being so young and un-tempered, man has yet to realize he is meant to evolve into something else. From being a being utterly dependent on everything and anything for all of his life and livelihood he must discover, accept and practice, the concept of individual self-empowerment. That’s what a human is and that’s why it is impossible for me to use that term in relation to man. Man is but a pseudo-human creature and despite several attempts at bringing him out of his self-destructive spirals and being handed new, custom-built civilizations time after time, he has refused to evolve himself either spiritually or mentally. Archeological evidence shows unerringly that man has undermined and destroyed every civilization he has ever been involved in (as he is in the process of destroying this one to his coming great and pain-filled loss).
A self-empowered being has no need, or use, for any kind of leadership – that should be understood. Self-empowerment means you know what, when, where, how and why without having to be told, directed, driven, preached, conned or enslaved into it. Self-empowerment means political speeches, pulpit preaching, commercials or the bleating of sheeple at organized sports events cannot have the least effect on you – just water off the proverbial duck’s back. You can swim in the stuff and it won’t get you wet. That’s self-empowerment.
There’s more. You can do whatever you want because you already know about the consequences or the results and it’s your own, personal choice. No devil or god can make you do it. You choose to do it (or not!) whatever the cost to your physical self.
But, there’s a catch. Self-empowerment is the most difficult path any ISSA* being can get on and walk. First, it leads nowhere because it leads everywhere. There is no road, not even a track, to follow. Whatever lies ahead of you, you have to discover for yourself. And how you walk that path, that too you have to determine for yourself. The moment you get tired or frightened and decide to follow another, however temporarily, you lose yourself. It’s like the game of snakes and ladders and that “follow another” is the snake that takes you right back down to the beginning again but unlike the game, it can take you way lower than your own beginning. You may not get another chance to even think self-empowerment until your next fortuitous reincarnation.
Oh, I did forget to mention that one of the “problems” with self-empowerment is that it’s going to require that you understand what is meant by “reincarnation” – not the hocus-pocus religious concept of such, but what it actually entails. You see, if all you have to go with is the tiny little bit of remembrance you have of this one life; if all you possess is an even more infinitesimal bit of wisdom from this one life’s experiences and educated guesses, your chances of becoming self-empowered are, frankly put, nil. Simply put, you need the remembered lessons and acquired wisdom of many lives to realize why you need to become self-empowered.
This also would be obvious: Self-empowerment comes from detachment. That’s an “ouch!” for Earthians – they’re a very socially attached organism with very primitive mores regarding relationships. Such as, for those not of your gender, use for sex, as servant, convenience or to guarantee progeny, some form of companionship and possible protection. For those on your side, accept, tolerate and interact with as profitably as possible. For those not on your side, consider as enemies if thought dangerous, as convenient prey if exploitable. For all non-man races: totally exploitable and completely expendable. That’s a generic view, of course, but I’m feeling generous.
With detachment comes the dilemma of equality. So to be detached one has to become compassionate – totally compassionate. Just try to imagine all the warning bells and whistles that would continually and annoyingly be set off by your lifestyle. Imagine becoming gradually aware of the suffering of those who slave to make the stuff that shows up as if by magic in your box stores? Imagine becoming aware of the suffering of turkeys, cows, pigs, not to mention wildlife “game” you enjoy going after and killing just for fun? Imagine having a very loud and aggressive conscience to deal with 24/7? And that’s what happens with compassion because compassion draws out the empathy now dormant in the pseudo-human Earthian, pulling the creature towards humanity.
And I didn’t even get to mention anthropogenic climate change!

As far as the title goes, one could say that about almost any era in history, including the Renaissance. Charles Dickens wrote about it in a tale of two cities: "It was the best of times. It was the worst of times."
I believe you are right about evolving. We have to evolve out of the territorial predatory nature of our origin can become more enlightened if we are to move out into outer space and help life on other planets. First, we must help ourselves.
