Attending to the spiritual needs of a nation of maggots
[Thoughts from ~burning woman~ by Sha’Tara]
I think that title practically says it all. But just in case someone is a bit slow on the uptake, let me tell it in a story, along with a few well-placed details.
For over 40 years, I was occupied in a very special profession. My duty was to attend to the dire spiritual needs of the nation which meant that I installed and repaired soft drink vending equipment. As you can tell, since I was at it that long, I must have had a pretty good success rate. The Matrix isn’t run by stupid people – it knows when it’s getting a good deal. I was a good deal.
So I traveled for over 40 years as an itinerant circuit “preacher” answering the calls of the needy of this land, when the machines either did not work, took money and gave nothing back (a most common complaint on this world) or a machine was desperately needed. I rode, not on a horse as my predecessors did, but in a service van, but the idea, the job, was essentially the same. My territory changed little over the years, though at times it encompassed a rather large area that included the FraserCanyon, ManningPark, Hope, Chilliwack, Abbotsford, Aldergrove, parts of Langley and on the other side of the River, Mission and Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows.
I heard a lot of prayers on my job and truth be told, I said more than a few myself. If there be such a place as hell, do not be afraid to go there as it will have a good contingent of vending machines and their designers consigned there by yours truly. I never thought of sending them to heaven. Likely, if you think about it, the nectar of the gods is not dispensed through a vending machine. Oh, well, wait a minute, that’s just an assumption. As below, so above. I wonder if one could buy a Coke made from the original formula up there – it had cocaine in it, which explains the name. Imagine, if you remember the old ditty, “I want to buy the world a Coke” now done on the harp with angels in full regalia singing... “I want to buy heaven a Coke...” But I digress.
Now I need to tie this up and bring in the maggots. Have you ever seen maggots crawling over rotting meat, or oozing out of a bag of kitchen wastes left out in the heat for over a week? Maggots are quite fond of that sort of stuff, the nastier the more they like it. Anyway, this last week I was employed cleaning up garbage at such and such a home in good ol’ Abbotsford. In one container was a split open garbage bag and you guessed it, it contained week old kitchen wastes. Maggot country par excellence. I pulled the bag out of the garbage container and there, in the bottom, must have been a two pound collection of maggots, all twisting around each other and attempting to climb the sides of the plastic container to reach... wherever. Heaven or hell? As far as these maggots were concerned, if survival wasn’t an option, likely heaven then.
I don’t know how much intelligence a maggot has. Best guess, not much. But as I watched them trying to extricate themselves from their sudden and unexpected predicament, an idea began forming in my brain. Here was something that looked incredibly familiar; a tableau representing a much vaster landscape that I was in contact with daily. Well, I had to get a job done so I went at it and forgot about the maggots. I left them in the container and the sun, bless its soul, took care of the critters: within an hour they were all quite dead at the bottom of their container.
It was some time later, after I returned from the local waste disposal that I was able to place the maggot experience within a greater experience of my own life. It occurred to me, and nothing has happened since to change my mind, that what the maggots represented is people; the very same people whom I am so familiar with. The ignorant people who live by the code of “Dancing with the Stars” or MSN or the Sports Network. The same people who go to church religiously because that’s what God wants; who vote because that’s what the country, or freedom or whatever, wants; who send their kids to school for indoctrinations, vaccinations and being taught political correctness and snitching on anyone not behaving according to the hive-mind because that’s what the governments and doctors and teachers want; who watch hockey-base-foot-basket-ball, soccer, and whatever else has been declared a sport because that’s what society wants; who drive Harleys and boom box cars and pickup trucks loud enough to shame a diesel locomotive around their neighbourhoods disturbing the peace because being brain dead simply demands it.
You probably know some people like that. They exist; they take up space; they consume, they pollute, and they die with never once having had a disturbing thought that maybe, just maybe, life is a gift and it demands that more evolved sentience give itself an actual purpose for having been born. Well, so much for “advanced” or “more evolved” sentience around here. Dream on. Not in the cards.
This land is safely, securely, wholly, unshakably in the hands of the system I call the Matrix. What is the Matrix? It’s everybody’s believed in and accepted reality. The Matrix is “all there is” and Earthians are not supposed to ever wonder if there could be another reality they are not allowed to see. Besides, why would they want to see any other reality? This one serves the purpose, which properly translated means, no purpose at all and that’s safe. Being in the arms of the Matrix is just like being in the bottom of that garbage container with a whole mess of rotting wastes to gorge upon. Doesn’t get any better.
I’ve met a lot of people over the years, including years in past lives (that’s one other reality “you” are not allowed to have) and I am convinced that those who live outside the divine guidance of the Matrix are few and far between. Better a “maggot” crawling around in the pile of what one knows than being labeled an oddball, possibly become an outcast (at best) and likely a victim of the maggot-mob-mind (at worst).
Man’s history tells it all, even if written by maggot-minds, because in typical Matrix fashion, an Earthian always considers her/himself above the crowd. “I’m not like them; I’m different; I’m better; I wouldn’t have condemned “so and so” to burn at the stake or to be decapitated or to rot in prison for life.” People believe this of themselves without an iota of proof that indeed they are better. They don’t need proof because they can hide programmed maggot-mob-mind bent behind governments, corporations, militaries, death squads, church inquisitions, even God when condemnations, tortures and deaths need to be dispensed – and how liberally dispensed these have been and continue to be. In all of it, the maggot-mind holds itself “above it all” unless of course it happens to agree with the liberally dispensed chaos and killing. Then it’s on the side of Right. Who dare argue with that?
When asked how we could better live our lives, the German philosopher, Martin Heidegger, said we should simply aim to spend more time “in graveyards.” This greatly misunderstood statement (many of his comments were misunderstood!) doesn’t mean that one should live in graveyards, or spend the dark hours of the night in them – I’ve tried it and it doesn’t do anything for me – but it was his way of saying we should consider our own life and who/what we live it for. Referring back to the maggot-mind, there is no question it lives its pointless life for the system and what it can hope to suck out of it while remaining oblivious to what the system is taking from its own maggot-mind. That mind is not found exploring its inner dimension – it can’t even begin to comprehend the concept of having an individual mind with any sort of dimension.
Something I must throw in here from years of observation of what maggot-minds do: they promote, not only the ignorance of machine-made noise, but ugliness as well. This is readily seen in clothing, in “fashion” so-called. More and more maggot-minds wear clothing designed to make themselves uglier than they already are. Don’t believe me? Go walk any busy street and watch. It is also seen in driving habits, and the design of the vehicles being driven, from the resuscitated ugly wrecks of previous decades to modern nightmare crosses between SUV’s and trucks. Tasteless ostentation rules. Plato once said that ugliness parades dangerous and damaged characteristics in front of us. It makes it harder to be wise, kind and calm. If Plato is even half right, no wonder this maggot-minded society is imploding.
“What need is there to weep over parts of life? The whole of it calls for tears.” (Seneca)
“I woke up only to find that the rest of the world is still sleeping” (Leonardo DaVinci)
I couldn't help thinking of another man who thought outside the matrix of his time. Henry David Thoreau observed ants working so diligently and applied it to the ants around him who lead lives of, "quiet desperation." They all, including Thoreau, can be found by walking in graveyards. What did they accomplish? First, they drove the red man (inferior) off the land. And then, drove King George back to England because his people wore outlandish wigs and pompous costumes and wanted to tax them and take their best plundered timber to Europe.
The ants have evolved. They now have become maggots.
