What Would You Do?
By Tommy L Thomas
How many of us have had to undergo situations where you had to soak it up because of unsavory individuals had no considerations for your welfare, either at home, work, play or commuting to a destination.
On the job, there are times when your boss irks you so bad that you want to tell him/her to k*** your A**. Let’s face it, many times we want to go further than that but for the sake of the job and the family we have to support, we just pucker our tails and go on hurting inside.
A day in the life goes like this. You rise to go to work and it starts off well greeting the family goodbye. But by the time you reach the intersection, some fool almost side whacked your car. Would you believe he has an attitude giving you the finger and he was in the wrong? What is wrong with this picture? I almost got my vehicle wrecked by this fool and he is mad at me. Forget it, let me get to work because I have to put food on the table and keep a roof over my head. I straightened myself up and try to bring some cheer to the job.
“Good Morning everyone!”
“What’s so good about it?” an irate workers interjects.
Well I tried. I might want to leave this alone and get to the task at hand.
My phone rings and on the other end is a bill collector calling at 7:30 a.m. Talking about being pissed, my mind cannot form words to say, I just hang up.
We, you and I struggle through the day and head for home to find some comfort from the trying times and hassles we’ve been through. But on the way home after picking up my spouse, here we go again as I cross the intersection with the light green and here is some fool running a red light running smack dead into me. Would you believe it, I thought it was bad this morning only to end up worse this afternoon. Here is how it goes in the poem I’ve written for life is full of surprises and for many, or rather all of us reaps what we sow. It is a Scriptural saying at Galatians 6:7.
ROAD RAGE
The Prison bars through which I stare
No inner peace I have even with confessions I bare
I remember my Baby’s face pleading for justice as she took her last breath
A rage of torment rushes through my soul at the eerie approach of death.
A moment ago my heart was floating on a cloud
From my Baby’s heart she spoke aloud
How we would be together
Through any storm or what so ever.
My mind still capture the SUV that danced across 7 Mile Road full of hate
That carried the demise of my baby’s fate
Those who did not give a damn about nothing at all
Tore up five cars and took 2 lives on the roll call.
As my baby lay her head in my arms
I tried my best to keep from harm
Not harm for me but for the other guy
Who stole my baby’s life bye, bye?
Through the wreckage I could see only red
Nothing mattered anymore my baby is dead
As I picked up the pipe made of solid steel
I prayed to God that I would not kill.
The road rage boiling over
The scum has no regret of killing my lover
Oh God, Oh God, I know what I am about to do is wrong
But how can I live another day when she won’t be coming home.
As the silly fool got out of the SUV
I moved into action purposely
If there was a Will of God with the pipe in my hand
It is to do justice by breaking this man
That will never again take another innocent soul
As I struck him from head to toe firm and bold.
Into the twilight zone of the outer limits I became lost
I must end this monster now no matter what the cost
As he reached for the 9mm pistol to even the score
Before his hand reached the trigger the pipe was at his mouth’s door.
The shattering of bone, teeth and marrow
Gave testimony it would be his last healthy day, never tomorrow
As his teeth made a clattering sound on the concrete
It seems like the crowd was gathering for a prayer meet
Amen, amen were the cheers of the cause
As the ambulance approached with bandage and gauze.
Road rage, road rage, is it from me or fiend
It might be me if you look at the scene
Three bodies I’ve beaten into submission has to be carried away
What is more terrible that happened this day?
Four lives lost by a senseless automobile driver
Or three beaten half to death during that hour.
Road rage, road rage you’ve got to stop
We’ve got to clean up our attitudes get the pail and mop
Start cleaning up your house first before you get in the streets
And maybe you won’t cause trouble with those you meet.
If my attitude was correct when I had my baby by my side
I wouldn’t be lock up behind bars with no sense of pride
I can only hope this rage will leave our troubled souls
And be as brothers as the bells tolls
For all of us to join in brotherly love
As God leads us away from rage and be guided by the light from above.
Reflections of how life can change in the blink of an eye is what the book I’ve written, “Vendetta: You Reap What You Sow” carries the message that fate can sometime raise an ugly head that will carry you to a new world where you are no longer the person you were yesterday.
Most of us do not have any compunction to kill. But what would you do if you have tried everything possible by letting the law handle the situation and it is like a roller coaster running downhill where you’ve lost everything, your family has been destroyed, and there are those who are determined to bring you down.
What would you do if a contract killing hang over your head after all of this? A drive by shooting, bomb threat, and constant harassment is a daily menu. What would you do?
The book, “Vendetta: You Reap What You Sow” explores the possibilities of what happens and how one individual handled it. It is a rip snorting adventure that takes three years to clear death hanging over her head that takes her to another Continent, Chicago, Wisconsin and back home to Detroit to clear a contract killing off her head. Put yourself in that situation, what would you do? Would you lie down and let your life be taken or would you do whatever you have to do to survive. See what Sapphire did in the exciting novel that will have you riveted on each page until you find what each character brings to his table as he or she reaps what they’ve sown.
