I was a little reluctant about attending a business function for students and staff in the huge Dunn Center of Wesleyan College. Many businesses would be there as well as college clubs recruiting students. I was offered a free full size table at a reduced price. My price was zero, and it was said that I had something special to offer to the students. I think that was an encouragement to get me there.
I made a visit to our local printing store and had a very large picture made of my number two book of this recent series, which has the best looking cover and then had it framed. I printed up flyers, greeting papers and bought several large bowls of treats to attract students. As a matter of fact, the first student to stop at my table, bought a book.
It was a great night, more fun than I have had in months. Two students sat at my table as volunteers and greeted the students and explained things concerning my books. They were eager to be part of my delivery. The night went very well, but the best part was when the college managing person for the administrative staff visited my table, she promised to give me a very nice write up in the up coming annual alumni magazine which goes out to thousands of former students. I think this makes a very rewarding relationship between author, business and education.
