Some thoughts on crime...

I like to steal cars and drive them around all night knocking off 24-hour convenience stores. I do this maybe once per week. I also like to ride my bike down the street really fast so I can swipe purses from little old ladies maybe twice a month. You see I have this theory. I should get amnesty. These crimes are so much a part of this country that we cannot realistically expect to get rid of them. We need to accept the reality of these crimes. Maybe we should change the laws so that I won't have to go to jail if I get caught. Its just not fair that I should have to be punished for doing something that is so prevelant in our society. Besides, I'm helping the economy. If I didn't steal all this stuff, people wouldn't need to buy more of it. I promote spending! You see? I help you and you put me in jail. What kind of sense does that make?

OK so maybe I don't really steal cars and rob convenience stores and little old ladies. Maybe I'm just trying to make a point.

As a nation, we seem to be forgetting that illegal immigration is a crime. More precisely, it is a federal crime. The allowance of the commission of this crime is also a security threat to this country. The granting of amnesty for the commission of this crime, for any reason, is encouragement to others that would do the same. It makes it harder for people trying to get in legally to enter. And contrary to popular consensus, allowing these people to break the law does not help our economy. These advocates of amnesty would have us all believe that only illegally arriving criminal immigrants are willing to clean our trash and pick our strawberry fields. Ridiculous.

When I was in my early twenties, I worked for a time at an auto salvage yard. I was the only person of caucasion descent there. The owners were from the Middle East and all of the employees were from Mexico. That job didn't pay very much, but I needed a job and that's the one I was able to get so I did it. I also once took on a second night job as a janitor for a large corporation.When I was just starting out, money was always tight and any extra job I could take on was welcome. The point is that dirty jobs are not the exclusive property of illegal aliens. There are people in Mexico and other places that would gladly come here and take these jobs for the promise of American opportunity. There are also people that were born in America that, for one reason or another will work these jobs when necessity requires it. The people spouting the lie that only illegal immigrants from Mexico will do these sorts of jobs for the wages offered are people that were in nearly every case born into wealth and would never imagine themselves doing any job that can even remotely be considered to be manual labor. When they see someone changing out a trash can they consider that person to be "mired in poverty" and living in "sub-human" conditions. These people who are perpetuating the fictitious idea of the "job that Americans won't do" don't even know what manual labor is. Perhaps if we replaced some of our lawyer politicians with people this myth would go away.

At the end of the day, what these advocates want is a "get out of jail free" card. Sorry. In this country, it is my belief that we should respect our laws, and if you come here, you need to respect them too.
