How much is a billion? Ever think about it?

When you hear a politician use the
word 'billion,' remember that our American treasury is made up of tax dollars.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend.

According to one advertising agency:

A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

A billion hours ago our ancestors were
living in the Stone Age.

A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.

A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government spends it.

Now with this prospective, let's consider the cost of rebuilding New Orleans:

Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D), has asked Congress for $250 BILLION.

There were 484,674 residents when Katrina destroyed it, if you were one of them you would receive the equivalent (goods, services, cash) of $516,528 EACH man, woman or child!

If you had one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans, $1,329,787 would be the value of your replacement home.

A family of four would receive benefits of $2,066,012.

All of those in New Orleans when Katrina hit would become instantly rich!

But, bet you a billion, how much of that money would the actual individual receive? Nada, not much, as it's really for the infrastructure.

I'm all for rebuilding New Orleans but shouldn't we ALL work for the common good rather than line our pockets while the middle man (with the burden of taxes) slaves away?

There is a time to profit and a time to give. Let's rebuild with the money we're currently spending for the war and bring our soldiers home!

Let's work on rebuilding our own nation, OUR infrastructure and live-and-let-live!
