My first car was a 1971 red Vega purchased in 1973 for $800. The previous owner, a fellow high school graduate, had paid $2000 for the car brand new just 20 months before. That should have been my first clue something was amiss.

This is hysterical, however, I bet there were more than a few days you were probably saying some rather colorful words about and to that Vega. Did you end up with a Subaru? Actually, I think I can write a Vega story about an old Subaru I use to own! Funny story! Thanks for the laugh.

Now that is funny...in a tragic sort of way. You had a real 'creampuff' as they say in the trade. I used to arbitrate cars for BBB. Thank God I never had to do one of these, although I had many 'lemons' that were similar. Thanks for the 'Vega' laugh.
i had one new in 1974. It was probably the worse car I ever owned. it started drinking oil at 28,000 miles. i enjoyed your article even though it brought back bad memories.
