Why I’ll Never Kneel to the Thought Police...

I’m an unshakable champion of free speech—even when it veers into hate speech, which, let’s be real here, I loathe as much as anyone with a shred of sanity. I do NOT love the seething, venomous tirades I’ve been reading of late. It pains me that so many fall into berating, belittling, and tossing labels like it’s some clever game. There’s no strength in tearing others down—it’s a flimsy crutch for those too lazy to hoist a real argument.

In spite of these abuses of our freedom, I still reject censorship, with rare exceptions. Don’t get me wrong: as a peace-lover, I’d obliterate hate speech in a nanosecond if I could wave a magic wand. It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to spew venom; any dimwit with a pulse and a grudge can manage that. It’s just a cheap shot that shrinks the person flinging it, not the target.

Yet, the moment we enshrine censorship in law, we’re one step from a totalitarian nightmare—a suffocating, speech-policed hellhole where every syllable’s a potential shackle.

Who defines “hateful”? Who’s the all-knowing arbiter? How do you enforce it without bias—or worse, some power-drunk overlord rigging the game? That’s not a slope I’ll slide down; it’s a cliff I’d leap from to avoid.

I came to this country as an immigrant, and ever since, I’ve been wrestling with where I land politically. It’s like peering into a warped funhouse mirror where nothing fits neatly. I’m a free spirit at my core, hell-bent on guarding freedom, especially the raw, unfiltered kind that includes free speech. I don’t trust the government to run my life, and I don’t think they’ve got any business policing my thoughts or words. I do wish people were kinder and more respectful, but rather than gag people, I’d rather we raise our kids to develop character and teach them good manners and respect.

That’s not idealism; it’s logic.

Lately, I’ve watched the far left lose their grip and devolve into a frothing, seemingly gleeful frenzy, as they salivate over Trump’s every stumble like it’s the Super Bowl. It feels like they’ve drowned all reason in a swamp of hate-soaked obsession, ironic for the self-proclaimed enlightened.
I’m no bleating sheep, trailing the herd off a cliff. I’d rather stand solo on a jagged peak than hum the crowd’s anthem.
Okay, if I really had to label myself, I’d say I’ve got a fierce libertarian streak, Freedom’s definitely my compass, and I despise excessive control, whether it’s the left’s sanctimonious word police or the right’s rigid dogma.
Maybe I’m veering right-libertarian these days, given the embarrassment I feel at the left’s hypocritical meltdown, but I’m not planting any party flag just yet. Some have suggested I’m a classical liberal; hooked on free markets, free minds. I definitely hold some conservative views but am allergic to today’s partisan clown show.
Democrat or Republican? I’m not picking a team, I’d sooner ditch the script than pick a sideline to root from at this stage.
Independent thinking isn’t just my preference; it’s my lifeline. It’s not enough to shun the flock. You’ve got to slash through the noise with a machete of critical thought. Free speech isn’t some dainty perk; it’s the lifeblood of a free mind. Strip that away, and we’re all just marionettes, flopping around under someone else’s strings.
I say question everything, speak your truth, and let others do the same—without shame. The only shame belongs to those who wield it as a weapon.

I'm with you. Hatred has no place in free speech because it belittles. Why I cringe every time I hear Donald Trump lay flattering praise on someone with a hate word.

The whole Republican agenda has me libertarian, leaning left. I can't stand republicans who can't stand up to authoritarianism. Democrats do.

On the other hand, my partner and I often share a secret code in case someone is hearing where I will say, "I hate you!" When I really mean the opposite.

When we start banning books are redacting them we are very close to 451°, the title of a novel and the temperature of burning paper in books.

Extremely well written. I'll bet you are a blast at parties. However, tread lightly, my dearest Chanti, you may unknowingly be slipping down the slope that you detest with this well-structured rant.

Just a thought.
