I'd vote for a squirrel if he knew where to put our nuts, because we need to squirrel away some nuts.
I never did ask you--are you a Democrat or Republican or Independent or what? Who are you rooting for?
I make my vote based upon 4 things--what are his/her thoughts with respect to all the issues, what is his/her experience, would I like to see him/her on my favorite news station every evening, and would he/she be a great team leader (the team being the United States of America team)?
I'd hate to have to listen to Guiliani's (spelling?) lisp every evening, and even though I'm warming up to Hillary a little bit (probably only because everybody's pouncing on her), I'd still hate to see/listen to her every evening, but she has definitely been there, so she would transition easily into the position.
For a little while, I was cheering for Fred Thompson, but he doesn't seem to have the oomph (Aunt Marvelene's term) that a president should have, but maybe a laid-back president might be a good thing--and maybe not.
On the other hand, I am extremely impressed with McCain's oomph for a man who is 70-plus, and he's a fighter pilot, a prisoner of war, and a very experienced senator. But, unfortunately I think he's a little old to be President of the United States--too much potential for calamity, and it would definitely depend on his running mate who has a relatively high probability of becoming the President. If I really liked his vice-presidential running mate, he might have my vote.
Personally, I think we need a president who is an orthodox Christian so he can represent the vast majority of us, so Romney loses my vote on that account. Besides, I don't like Romney's hair-do even though it's almost identical to mine--maybe it's time to change my hair-do.
If I were a masochist I would vote for Edwards because his smile hurts my face every time I see him. He's a lawyer through-and-through, and that puts him at the bottom of the ocean with the other thousand lawyers that would make a good start.
Obama doesn't have much experience, but he speaks well, and he could bring this country's race's together, even though I haven't seen any evidence of it yet.
So after much ado, for the moment I am leaning heavily toward Huckabee. I like the fact that he was a Baptist preacher and the governor of my favorite state for 10 or 11 years. I like his crisp sense of humor. I like his down-to-earthness. I can relate to him and I think he relates to me. I like his grin. I think he could lead us into becoming a greater country (spiritually, militarily, economically/environmentally, and nationally). We need somebody who is strong-minded but soft-spoken, so Mike gets my vote--for now.
From my way of seeing it, this may be the most important presidential election ever. We're looking at some of the biggest dominoes that this country has ever seen...oil/gas prices skyrocketing, many hundreds or thousands of people all over the world wanting to blow their stupid brains to pieces to become martyrs or to have a bunch of virgins at their disposal. I think it's a little more basic than that in many cases--to save their family from threats of being killed, but we'll never know for sure because they're dead now. And then I also think that the world's people are getting too big for their pants. They've forgotten the value of humility. Everyone who is alive has forgotten what a depression is like. Aunt Marvelene was my best friend for many years and we spent a lot of hours on the swing on her front porch, mostly me listening to her experience and wisdom. This country is at the top of it's game, but we're going down--and we're going down fast, and that's why I think this presidential election is so critical.
I'd love to hear your analysis of the presidential candidates.

From my (foreign and removed) standpoint, you are so right when you say that " this may be the most important presidential election ever".
This is a battle for the soul of the most powerful nation on Earth - and having watched the candidates on CNN, I am appalled at the generally poor standard of the candidates.
Be that as it may, the people of the US have a stark choice before them:
1) Sink deeper into theocracy, intolerance and war.
2) Take a chance on liberal values and a less certain but possibly better long term future for all.
The choice of the American people affects the whole world, so I make no apology for commenting on their political affairs.
Happy New Year to you and your family!!
