Where do the naysayers and wall-builders come from
Do they imagine their ancestors were spontaneously
Dropped here one day, white of skin, superior of being
Did no one’s father or grandfather have to struggle
Through a winter, hungry and praying their babies
Would live to see the coming spring…or bury them
Did no wall-builder’s ancestral Grandmother sicken
With some hideous disease and die in her marital bed
How self-righteous we have become that we do not
Rise up and with our own American hands and tear asunder
Any wall that keeps another living being from a chance
To thrive and survive and make a new life for themselves
Separating children from their parents, leaving them
Frightened and fear-filled is beyond the realm of decency
Of any nation that is as advanced as ours is today
Consider a man who would punish an entire nation with
Shutting down their very government, just to get his way
Jackboots are sounding, America…will the swaztika
Take the place of Old Glory
Walls have a way of being torn down and only hold back progress for a short time. There are other ways of protecting the borders without throwing up ugly walls. The economy is starting to tank under the administration's foolhardy promises and actions that don't always match. One of the reasons is that cheap labor has dried up with fewer immigrants being allowed into the country to do the dirty work that United States citizens have relied on for some time while barely noticing it.
The key to a country's economic success is generally its young, eager and growing population. Countries without that population, like Russia and Japan, have been losing economic ground.
Nationalism will not work in a world where everything is global. Time to reconsider our policies towards the rest of the world and work with them to solve major problems like the huge numbers of refugees from poverty and war torn parts of the globe.
