Patriotic protests ARE free speech!
I'm a 70 year old Vietnam veteran who has stopped caring what the racist orange moron in the Whitehouse says. Hopefully he will soon be in prison with most of his staff.
This ridiculous crap about "patriotism " over a piece of cloth made in China by a 7 year old slave that my grandchildren might have to go to war against over something this treasonous monster spews to take some of the media attention away from the crimes he and his team committed with Russia which, unfortunately, put him in the presidency makes me sick.
To his racist, Nazi and, I assume, some decent supporters I say this: look past the trees and see the forest of greed and corruption you put in this position. It's a matter of time before the light Robert Mueller shines into the rancid sewer that is his administration forces all the rats to scamper to their lawyers and make the necessary deals which might lighten or remove their own culpability in the TREASON.
Wake up! This isn't about patriotism. It's a smoke screen to grab the attention of his pathetic supporters like a laser distracts a cat.
If I lose friends over this post, that's okay. Wake up America!
To be heard, whether in person or on paper, or digitally, is worth the time for us, readers and writers, to support honesty in a world rapidly changing into a species of lies and misrepresentation. Let us hope the miasma of hate and power mongering doesn't ultimately suffocate life as the world has known (and tolerated to a large extent) for centuries. Thank you for posting.
In your masthead quote of Will Rodgers, he says, "I'm a Democrat..." Too bad for you that America isn't a democracy. Such ignorance from a child is often humorous, but from a man your age, it's just sad. Hate is not a winning political strategy, and that is why your tribe is out--relegated to the scrap heap of irrelevance. Noble Americans have been gagged by the vicious lies and slander of the Demonicrat party and have rejected the division of identity policies of the fraud president and his deceitful sinister minions.
Many of us have been shouting the same message, "Wake up America," for the past eight years. America has awakened. It's time for this writer to do so as well.
Well said - the US Supreme Court has ruled in your/our favor again and again, in 'peace' and war. No official, great or small, may command our participation in religious or patriotic ritual. Dissent is patriotic!
You've got a friend in me. In one very short article you have clearly pointed out what is wrong with the Trump administration and the misguided people who put him in office and continue to defend him against overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
I have talked to veterans of the Vietnam War and learned that most have PTSD. I am currently watching Ken Burns's Vietnam War on PBS and would encourage everyone, especially younger people who haven't experienced anything like an up close and personal war, to view it as well as those super patriots who are behind large defense budgets but never went to war or experienced it. Now neglecting veterans and earlier promises to them.
Using newsreels (fake news?) and first-hand accounts throughout the entire ranks from foot soldier to president, the movie reveals the fallacy of this kind of "saving the world for democracy" destruction of a ancient culture in the name of political correctness. Gen. Westmoreland seemed to delude himself very similar to Trump with his lying and constant thinking that more money and troops would quickly solve the problem. And all the presidents, in spite of great doubts, as commander-in-chief, continued the losing effort by being pushed by the generals and the general public who thought that the United States could save Southeast Asia from communism by destroying it.
