God is a taboo. Even in religion. If we don't keep God under control, who knows what would happen?

Let's see, how many ways are we messed up about that bizarre word 'God?'

1. God is invisible. Actually He's not. We're just blind, and we don't realize it. These very words don't make any sense to most people. Why are we so good at keeping God invisible? Its our issue, not His.

2. God is dominance. This is a major civilized issue. Domination in modern parlance means 'abusive dominance.' So God is rooked from the get-go. God is stuck in the mud of civilized history. Men were so horrible dominating other men, and claiming God gave them the right, that God is now associated with all the ugliness of men in power.

3. God is masculine. Men have done some horrible things. Feminism got the masculine to mean brutish violence. So we have a two-dimensional view of God based on the masculine association that humans have given Him. And the resurrection of SOMETHING positive about the masculine hasn't even really begun. We have George W. Bush and the Religious Right to keep God in that silly category of nasty men. The positive male is as much a taboo as God.

4. God as unfair. Look at all the suffering in the world. Doesn't make sense. Religion tries to re-define God to distance Him from the suffering. But if a doctor has the power to cure, and doesn't, then he's guilty.

5. God is love. So? This means God is impotent. Nice lovey-dovey image, but we still have to deal with the crap of life. So God is irrelevant.

6. God is SO big, He can't be known. Any attempt is by definition false, because He can't be defined, therefore known and limited. So it negates even talking about Him.

7. God is not necessary. We have got the pain and death thing and survival thing all under control right now. God has lost His purpose. We do it better now than when the Church reigned.

8. God is limited. Human consciousness is the center of the universe. God is in relation to the only other consciousness in the universe, us. So we must be big. But science keeps showing how small we are as it explores inert matter billions of light years away. So God is absurd as we come to realize our place in all the inert matter of the cosmos. We are both stuck in this massive reality of inert matter, lonely for each other. This is quite bizarre, when you think of it.

9. The Jesus Story is just too weird to make sense, objectively. And this is supposed to represent God? Ok...

10. God is someone else's agenda.

11. God is civilized. God is not 'wild.' Nature is, and we tamed it. Just like we tamed God. The last thing we want to do is let Him out of the cage. That's why civilization put spirituality in the institution of religion, to get Him under control. Whew! That was tough. Don't want to open that Pandora's Box again. It would upset even the Pope.

12. God questions everything about us. Who wants to deal with that? Wouldn't be so bad if He gave some answers.

13. God is safe in religious texts, thousands of years ago. Most religions could not stand something new from God.

14. God is against life. He wants to put us in prison. Human desires must be controlled. Why create human life in the first place if we can't taste it the way we want, positively, freely? Why is there an issue with our very existence? Please...

15. God is just a product of human imagination, the undeveloped mind trying to explain reality.

16. God creates strife among humans. Just gets all the religions in a huff, and they go out and kill everybody. Good work, God.

17. God is a threat. 'Judgment' says it all.

If you want to have fun, just say the word 'God,' and see how the other person becomes a pinball with the concept. Combine 'God' with 'spirituality' and watch every one get nervous.

'God' says more about our own state than it does about Him. We don't get that.
