We should remember that English was not a language during the time of the Prophets. When language change so does definitions.

Did you know that King Herod killed his wife sons, and several of his servants and many slaves only because he feared for losing his throne. During those days and times the people who inhabited those lands were lawless. The laws that were sent from Musa (Moses) were never followed by these people. If King Herod was above the law, then everyone else followed his example. King Herod is what we call today a SERIAL KILLER!  Herod feared reports about a Messiah being born during his reign would mean the end of his throne in Palestine because of a prophesy given to him by a Magi. Therefore he sought out to find the Christ child to destroy him.   Herod was the family name of a dynasty of princes who ruled from 55B.C. to 93 A.D. beginning with the patriarch Herod Antipater.  This linage of Idumeans ruled principally in Judea.  The Idumeans, classified as Edomites, were subjugated and forced to accept Judaism by John Hyreanus who was a rebel in his era of time.  The Idumeans submitted to the laws of Abraham, which included the circumcision of the men. The Judeans did not readily accept the Idumeans because they were mixed seeds from Aysaw (Esau) who was Yacov (Jacob's) brother whom God hated in Malachi 1:2-3; Isaiah 34:5. Herod was given total rulership of Palestine which included Jerusalem, by Julius Caesar, sole ruler of the Roman Empire. When Caesar was assassinated in 44 B.C. Mark Anthony seized the rulership. After Mark Anthony was defeated and commited suicide, Herod became his Victor. Herod never got near the Christ Child.
