On June 26,1857 A.D. Springfield: '"There is a natural disgust in the minds of nearly all white people at the idea of an indiscriminate Amalgamation of the white and black race. A separation of the races is the only perfect preventive of Amalgamation but as immediate separation is impossible the next best thing is to keep them apart where they are not already together'"

On September 18th , 1858 at Charleston, Illinois. One year later, he said just about the same thing: "I will say then I am not, nor ever have been in favor of making voters of jurors of Negroes, nor of qualfying them to hold office.  Nor to intermarry with white pople, and I will say in addition to his that there is a physiccal difference between the white and black races.  Which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and polictical equality and in as much as they cannot so live, while thay do remain together.  There must be the position of superior and inferior and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the whit race.""

On August 21, 1859 At Ottawa Illinois the following year: "I hold that a Negro is not andf never ought to be a citizen of the United States. I hold that this government was made on the white basis, by white men for the benefit of white men and their posterity forever and should be administered by white men and women and none others."
