Thursday night my cousin Mike called me to tell me that he had tickets to see "Good Vibrations." I knew that it was the Broadway show based on the music of the Beach Boys so I wasn't too keen on seeing it, but it is a Broadway show afterall and I do kinda' like the Beach Boys since I am a "California Girl".

The show was pretty much what I expected...a cute little story line about a group of teens taking a cross country road trip to the sand and surf of California one summer after high school. The show bopped along until this guy opened his mouth to sing a solo. He has the most wonderful tone to his voice (you can hear samples on his website)! I am a new fan. He was the best singer in the entire cast. He actually sounds like a singer who acts as opposed to the others who appeared to be actors who sing. I wasn't impressed with the rest of the cast and their ability but it was a simple storyline that was interjected with humor. I will say that the technical aspects of the show are on point (that is the stage manager in me speaking). The scene changes and the lighting effects were used in ways I hadn't seen before. I am always impressed with the effects of stage lifts and sets that can be dropped onto stage and wisked away in a blink of an eye.

All in all it was a worthwhile experience to see what kind of "talent" Broadway is currently offering and to see the inside of the famed Eugene O'Neill theater (which was more intimate than I expected it be). It is a good show for those who are fans of the Beach Blanket Bingo set and it is certainly a family show for those who want their kids to experience Broadway.

At the end of the show, the cast threw huge beach balls out into the audience and tossed them around during the finale. I think it was worth it just to discover the talent that is Tituss Burgess.
