Have you been to the Oregon Caves? If you have you’ve been to Bigfoot Country. Many sightings have been reported in the area. I’ve seen photos of the caves and have thought it would be great to see them. Now, I think I’ll plan a trip, because as much as the caves excite me the possibility of seeing a Bigfoot/Sasquatch is even more exciting.
While researching information for the column this week, I found this experience by a licensed psychologist, a Dr. Johnson (from the website www.oregonbigfoot.com). Dr. Johnson and family decided to walk on up the mountain after leaving the caves to look at a Douglas fir tree reported to be from 800 -1,000 years old, and 40 feet in circumference. The Johnsons had just moved to the area from Alaska and were into hiking, so the steep hike seemed doable.
It wasn’t long before Dr. Johnson heard and felt the blood swooshing in his ears from the exertion. He also heard what sounded like “whoa, whoa, whoa,” coming first from behind and then in front of them. He finally asked his family if they heard the sounds. And now they smelled a strong odor that some say smells like skunk, but the couple knew it wasn’t skunk. They had smelled skunk many times. It was just as strong but not skunk. It became necessary for Dr. Johnson to leave his wife and two children on the trail so he could relieve himself. He walked up the trail, squatted to tend to his needs and scanned the area below. This was when he saw Bigfoot moving between two trees. The animal was watching his family. It was huge and was not a bear. He knew what a bear looked like. He had even been chased by one in Alaska, on the Russian River. He was positive the animal he observed was a Bigfoot.
The couple decided to report the sighting to the ranger on duty. The Johnsons have since learned that prior to their 2000 sighting there have been credible witnesses reporting “similar incidents in the area.”
