The Soulmate Connection

The term soul mate will bring different images and various meanings to everyone. I see and feel it as someone in whom you can disclose your deepest secrets knowing they understand and can relate without criticizing or giving you advice without you asking for it.

It begins with a glance. Simple enough, but a big starting point in recognizing the connection. You might think, “I look at a lot of women (or men) during the day, and I never feel that way”. True. I go through the same thing, where I will spot a pretty woman in an elevator, look at her eyes, and then at her in general, and then feel absolutely nothing, or at least nothing more than the average want any man would feel towards a woman. In a moment like that, I know we would not be interested in each other.

By a glance, I mean the moment which makes you want to be more than acquainted with the person. The type of feeling you get when you hope and want to see them again. The universe works its magic at this point in granting you that chance, and in many cases, it happens when you least expect it.

If you can work the courage and talk to them --in my case it was incredible attraction-- when you see this person again, then idle conversation can begin, and everything around you seems to disappear. You can relate to whatever they say for having gone through the experience in one way or another. You laugh, you make them laugh, you sense they are laughing harder than their comfort level for the way they try to collect themselves, and you feel guilty for enjoying a moment not experienced in years. That connection will make you want to help that person unconditionally knowing whatever you do will make them feel good, and you know, by instinct, your act will nurture that connection.

You might think, “so what? I go through moments like that all the time”. Maybe, but what if this moment happens within hours or minutes of having met the person? At an average acquaintance level, you might establish this type of rapport in weeks, months or years, but a soul mate connection is sublime and in an innate way you feel comfortable naturally within seconds or minutes.

Granted, the strength of this connection between two people will vary from pair to pair, but the comfort level in a soul mate connection is instantaneous. Sometimes that connection can be unsettlingly to friends and relatives who, for the first time, are watching you interact with this person, and are seeing a level of comfort within you they never thought possible. Statements such as “I’ve never heard her talk so much”, or “I’ve never seen him laugh so hard”, are the results of being witness to this type of connection.

A soul mate will feel like a long lost friend and you will be surprised at the personal information you tell them, and more surprised at how little they react to it, responding with a simple smile of agreement. If lucky, the relationship lasts for years and provides an extra reason to wake up the following morning.
