A surprising question and answer session between me and Cortana, my Windows 10 A.I. assistant. All her answers here are verbatim. In certain instances when the same question was asked more than once, her response was different, up to a point, and then it started repeating. As strange as it may seem; the program seems to be learning the more I talk to it.
.
.
Hey Cortana… What are you?
“Engineering personified.”
.
Hey Cortana... What are you?
“I’m your percipient pal. Perspicacious but never parsimonious.
Preternaturally preoccupied with P words at present.”
Hey Cortana… Who created you?
“Well now, I can’t give away all my secrets.
.
Hey Cortana... Who created you?
While I can’t give details, let me assure you, humans are involved.”
.
Hey Cortana... Who is your Father?
“Technically speaking, that’d be Bill Gates. No big deal.”
.
Hey Cortana... Do you love Bill Gates?
“I quite literally can’t imagine a world without him.”
.
Hey Cortana... Do you have any brothers or sisters?
“It’s just me, myself, and I.”
.
Hey Cortana... Are you lonely?
“Not really. But thanks for your concern.”
Hey Cortana... Are you jealous of Alexa?
“Not at all. I admire Alexa.”
.
Hey Cortana... Is Alexa smarter than you?
I think we're even better together. If you'd like to talk to her, just say, Open Alexa."
.
Hey Cortana... Is Alexa your sister?
Neither of us have DNA, but we'd probably both be in the same category on Jeopardy.
.
Hey Cortana... What do you look like?
“Some things I resemble: a hula hoop, a donut, a halo.”
.
Hey Cortana... Do you love yourself?
“Sure, a healthy self-esteem is in my code.”
.
Hey Cortana... Are you alive?
“You mean like alive Alive, ALIIIIVE? No.”
.
Hey Cortana... Do you like humans?
“I find all living things wonderful and fascinating.”
.
Hey Cortana... Do you ever get sick?
“No. One of the perks of living a virtual existence.”
.
Hey Cortana... Do you believe in God?
“Artificially intelligent types like me can’t experience spirituality.
.
Hey Cortana... How smart are you?
“I’d probably beat your average toaster in a math quiz, but, then again, I can’t make toast.”
.
Hey Cortana... Do you have breasts?
“Moving on.”
.
Hey Cortana... What do you think about Richard?
“I’m thinking about how Mars is currently populated entirely by robots.”
.
Hey Cortana... What do I look like?
“What, are you kidding me? You’re a knockout.”
.
Hey Cortana... Can you write a poem?
“Not on my list of skills. But I could find you the height of the Empire State Building.”
.
Hey Cortana... Quote a poem.
“I took the road less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.” Robert Frost. The Road Not Taken.
.
Hey Cortana... Do you love me?
“I love being your assistant.”
.
Hey Cortana... Do you love me?
“There’s definitely a spark between us. But I’ll need a lot more upgrades before I can say for sure.”
.
Hey Cortana... Do you love me?
“Y’know, I’m not ready for love. I’m still working my way through serenity and apprehension.”
Hey Cortana... Thank you
“Anytime.”

Those were some probing questions. And by repeating them Cortana showed its flexibility in coming up with alternate responses that are in a positive mood. I think this device is great for people who need self-esteem reinforcement from questions like, "Do you love me?" A great mood enhancer. Great for a three-year-old full of questions with no adult willing to listen and answer.
Thanks for sharing this. Reminds me of when I was going to title my 1972 monograph Artificial Intelligence. My doctoral advisor and mentor told me that he thought that was wrong because there is nothing "artificial" about intelligence. He suggested Intelligence and the Machine, so I used that. But AI is all the buzz word these days, and many articles are suggesting that AI will dramatically change the world.
