Friends of the Den:

This is a very important note considering the state of black men in America. Black women already outnumber black men by 2 million. Black American males are hard pressed to see upstanding people who have turned from wrong to right in the community. And although I am not saying that the justice system is not above improvement, and that people are not above making wiser decisions about their conduct, sometimes, in America, the poor and non-white get caught between a rock and a slab. This is why I share this note with all of you. Hopefully you will share it with others, especially in this season of celebration of life.

Please join me in signing this petition. If it is the American thing to do to grant freedom to Iraqi people, why not do the same by keeping a brilliant mind who has proven himself renewed by a prison system that so often corrupts?

Saving this man might save some one else's live who has yet to be born. What effects California effects the rest of the nation.  Stuff always moves from west to east without fail. Let's not let Bro. Tookie down. If the system is about reform, why kill what actually worked this time?

I've joined ColorOfChange.org in asking Gov. Schwarzenegger to grant clemency to Tookie Williams. I wanted to let you know about the effort and invite you to do the same.

In the early '70s, Tookie Williams co-founded the Crips--a street gang that went on to cause tremendous destruction in Black neighborhoods throughout the country. In prison, Tookie's life took a 180-degree turn. First he repented and publicly apologized for the chaos that he helped create. Then he made it his life's work to clean up the mess and change the lives of others. Tookie has helped countless youth turn away from gang life; he's written numerous children's books; and he's won the praise of teachers, parole officers, and youth who've benefitted from his experiences.

Killing Tookie will solve nothing. In fact, we'll lose a key asset working to end the cycle of violence among our youth.

Please join me in urging Gov. Schwarzenegger to not kill Tookie Williams. It takes only a moment.
