Conceptual Godhood

A journey into circling abstracts.

One thought leads to another, cycled and pondered, developing a sense of essence unbound. Does one statement about the unknown hold more truth than another? Who decides? One concept I wrote about ‘godhood’ elicited an answer, which leads me into another conundrum of intrinsic unidentifiability.

God-Roaring

“I am GOD!” she roars,
in her personal genesis,
then smiles earthily,
as she perceives its truth.

“i am god,” she breaths,
such a tiny statement,
an atom holding cognizance divined,
expansive in its smallness,
gravid in its timelessness,
crushing with its fluctuating weight.

“Am I god?” she reflects.
In her universe, she is
central to her radius of influence.
Conscious of infinite substance
of which extension and thought
are attributes, and human beings
are changing forms.

“Is god awareness?” she questions.
Intelligence? Evolution?
Is god a reality?”
Soul is nonphysical,
supernatural; soul
is mind's essence,
compounded by time.

“If not god, what am I?” she broods.

Another's perceptions and background offered me more fuel for the continuing obliqueness of abstractions ability to wear rose-colored glasses.

“Erin, I remember a statement somewhere in my life that stated that, "Only man could be so selfish that he/she thinks he was made in god’s image." Could not god be a fish, horse, or even the reverse of his name, a DOG?

But, does a fish, a flea or an entire beehive Think it is god? Are they aware they could be and that they are even "alive”, incredibly, beautifully alive? In my piece "No Courtesy Among Chickens”, I observed that chickens have no concept of 'sharing', they are one of the most selfish creatures I've seen. But are they? Do they not see their individual lives as a type of godhood? They are, therefore, their survival comes before anything else. They will not sacrifice themselves for another’s benefit. Humans do, dogs do, elephants do, whales do, and the ability to see and use compassion seems to increase with the proportion of larger cranial brain space, on our earthly world. I believe intelligence is rudimentary in being a god.

Or, as in one expounding I wrote titled “GOD…?”, each planet, sun, moon, every atom of being in our universe is each a single cell of GOD. We, as a universe, are God. It is as believable as a single "thing" creating every elemental structure including eternity and time's movement. It is not such a bad thing calling ones self a god, I am not GOD. As a dog might see me as a "god" to be worshipped, so a more intelligent, mysterious being than I would seem to be my god. When you think about it, Jesus Christ is a God, so, with his father, GOD, that is two gods in that religion, and actually the Holy Ghost, which has no form and is omnipresent, makes up the trinity of three Gods. Much like a Celtic knot, it is self-perpetuating, an enigma. Most people agree the 'soul' does not die, it goes "somewhere", heaven, hell, purgatory; mythology is full of gods and their realms. For example:

"Odin was the god not only of wisdom, but also of battle, death and inspiration. Warriors believed that if they died in battle they might be invited to Odin's palace, Valhalla, where they would feast forever as his chosen companions."

Where did they go if they did not die in battle? Where did the normal people go? A “different” heaven? Or do they go into boundless limbo, frozen for eternity’s specious length, reviving when Time “ends”, with a Big Bang.

Is there more than one God and one heaven? Who knows for certain? God? As far as being selfish since we are human, of course, how could we not be? We are intelligent, cognitive. No one knows for sure if GOD is selfish. Some would say creating "all" and disappearing to leave us to our own devices is selfish, but the concept is active in our natural world all the time.

"She broods on cycles, on creative outlets,
of Man’s need to self-proclaim
and expound individual realities.
As it should be, in the wonder of Being."

From;
Subjectivity: A Thank You

The wonder of Being is awareness. The possibilities are endless. I will throw myself into my mind, and question...everything. And continue to write what I find, an influx of observations of quintessence-ence combined with the boundaries of human flesh. I hope one day to see "heaven" and meet "GOD", wherever that may be.

Incredible article. I was searching for something by you to read, and found this which also includes a good poem. You ask: "Is God selfish?" He is in a way, but "his" selfish must include all things, so it is of the right kind. So many great questions you ask, and as I've recently been reading on ancient history, I too wonder what happened to those ancient sons of god or gods?
But is a civilization as a whole an expression of his Will? If not even "unselfishness" may be wasted. We can learn a thing or two from the deep past, but it is people like you who keep us on track...
So I too live in an isolated country area; maybe it gets us thinking too much.
Nice reading...

Mind is not all, only part of the equasion. With all our knowledge, we are still limited to numbers and symbols and myths to try and understand our existence. We sense the shadows of other dimensions and have discovered other universes! But we choose to anchor ourselves to the illusion of constancy, when life is in constant flux and continual evolution...

Erin,

Definitively thought-provoking and wonderfully penned, "Conceptual Godhood" certainly does define "The wonder of Being . . ." Thanks for this excellent write!!

We were created in His image... and created with a free will. Unfortunately... many of us use that free will to chase shadows or search for magic and emotion instead of grasping solid truth that is laid out plainly before us. Oh to be a robot! Pre programmed and with no doubts about my creator... and no blame for my actions. A deep write with lots of meat to chew on!

very thoughtful. i agree with much of what you say here, with only the added caveat that God with capital G is infinite, while we are but partial reflections, each containing the seed of holiness to differing degrees. wonderful work!

Hi Erin:
Great thinking, great questions. It's a measure of deep satisfaction and intrigue that you and I get to ask questions, rather than having to depend on the "clergy" or "leaders" to do so and pass to us their conclusions if they deign. We could not have done so in times and places past. Let's hope and work to retain that right by doing just what you are doing with this great poem and discussion -- ASK QUESTIONS!!! I think the questions may be as important as the answers.
Best regards,
Leland

dear Erin- the dividing line between the way life and people go from assembling, learning, problem solving, via a looking back mechanism -counting backwards to take our forward steps, and the actual future that only starts from an assumption of we just are-exist-can have no
exact definition of an exact start because something always had to be before from this method of counting...the dividing line lay in the existence of the way we think itself. Youve heard the expression we are children of the universe..that is what is...our steps forward are from looking backwards-and that is what exists-is ,however untangeable that is-the further forward we go the greater change to the things of the whole-which just is-like a container and its contents are always together no matter how you divide them. In this scientific age we have not learned the distunction getween conquering(as in nature) and controlling-controlling is an end to forward counting(the future) and comes from scientific method which is of learning intellect and is only a looking back phenomonom. We cannot clone genes-cannot control the weather, cannot continue to make new elements in the accelerators. God is from a perception of that we all do go forwards to an unknown and all come from the same place(have the same big and little pieces of the past (in common exactly or not like the human family DNA tree)in our separate societies and has no application with science(a baby after birth starts to cry,how?,-all the scientists on earth or ever lived now or before could never predict actual instinct response or the happenstances of life. By the real definition of god of the very old-he is never an actual person-but a commonality passed down father to son. "God helped me"my feet are on the ground, the baby walks upright, all these are where god is-on the ground upright, among the living. My cognition luck and chance are my god. Science s only among these things in our lives.
We all struggle and worry with things wrong in the world-of which today science is a very prominent component of-and the lines of our vulnerabilities to nature have shouldered changes appeared to be almost impossible magic by science, but things are not really any different, and men who bear their fears(which are usually no more in total than the feeling itself that derails many) grow strong as those who lean are weakening us all. Good men as scientists arent scientist to change the world as their initial primary thought-they like to think scientifically like some people like to knit, the rest see where all the esteem money and gain is."my son the doctor"..in ol culture scholars were always respected and cared for. The amount of honor and number of scholars today is in near infinite amount(like the difference in the amount of gold and building materials) compared with the actual changes in scholarship, and our actual perspective our feet on the earth to bear the presence of god is greatly diluted.

So ERIN, WOW!! I started something, glad I could spark your creative juices herein. I read the above and enjoyed it immensely. I love to philosophisize (is that a word?) about things like this with anyone who cares to join in with my conversation. I was thinking while reading the above, if maybe we are ALL gods in some way and with regards bees and like that, maybe if we are all gods, then each organism is in its own universe as well...? It just hit me that way, and I loved reading it and hope to hear more from you! Thanks for a fun, thought provoking read, Peace, ED
