Survival Or Extinction -- a looming choice 1/15/2013 1:47:12 PM
If we're to survive an ominous future, how do we do it? By now, most rationally grounded, clearly informed people with an accurate understanding of scientific thinking know that we're standing on the edge of a precipice threatening no less than the survival of the human race -- yes, the horror of our full biological extinction. But,ironically,the very soul of this pending tragedy is lodged in the very success of our vaunted economic colossus -- in its most cherished commitment, perpetual material growth. Unfortunately however, perpetual economic growth requires a perpetual population expansion to maintain it, a merciless one, as well as a never ending exploitation and degradation of the earth, which is truly unsustainable with seven billion people already crowding the planet, clamoring for more and more of everything. Though it's unlikely to ever happen, the solution here is simple
