Well, this is something that I think is the strongest part needed of any writing for me personally. I really want people along with myself to connect with the characters. Without them then there really is no story. I need to personally relate to them in some facet.
In a fantasy adventure novel you can be extremely creative with your heroes and villains. As I write my 4th book of the Horn King series the characters have all grown substantially.
The characters have evolved right before my eyes. They have morphed into something special.
The four main heroes (Bridazak, Spilf, Dulgin, and Abawken) have each placed their fingerprints in the novels. Even with additional heroes added on their travels they are the originals who started together.
The villains are essential and I want to really push the envelope with them in my story. I don't just want to say they are evil but literally show you how evil they are. It is difficult to do when I don't want to overstep the boundary of my own faith, but still bring the realism.
Anyway, I wanted to share some of my thoughts about the character development and just encourage all you writers out there to just go for it and let your heroes and villains almost create themselves. Its a beautiful process!
