In 2004, a gifted spiritual medium and I crossed paths. Over the course of several weeks, the medium recorded communications received from 7 Souls in the afterlife. My job, as it turned out, was to organize them into a book to share with you. But first, they had to convince me they were real. Aunt Gertrude was my great-aunt on my mother's side. She was also a short spinster born in the Victorian era with the kind of lines on her upper lip that only stern, perpetually angry people seem to get.
When the spiritual medium told me she heard the clickety-clack of brisk, angry high heels against a wooden floor, along with an order to "Tell that Daniel Farish I know him well and I would NOT invite him to my home for dinner", I knew Aunt Gertrude had arrived.
It was a moment that bristled the hair on the back of my neck, but also brought a smile to my face. It was Gertrude's way of saying she was fond of me. As it turned out, she would be one of many deceased family members and friends communicating from the afterlife.
