A special wedding day... 1-29-2013
I recently went to my friend, Jimmy's wedding, and as I was sitting in my chair watching the ceremony take place, I began to reminisce about the times of when we were kids growing up in the lower flats of NW Portland, Oregon. We didn't have fancy clothes, cars or even money to spend for a candy bar at times, but we had a friendship. And even if I wasn't crying on the outside, I was crying a little on the inside because I didn't want it to end. I wanted to go back in time and relive what we used to have, not just with Jimmy but with all our friends: no responsibilities or worries, or fear of what tomorrow might bring, just kids being kids. But then I realized that this is the best time of our lives, and that even though we’re a couple years shy of being fifty, that it’s never too late to live life. Jimmy started out rough in life, and I have had the privilege to see him grow to be a fine man, even in the midst of losing his mother and father, he still kept strong.
Jimmy once said to me that he looked up to how far I've come...well, Jimmy, I can honestly say that, I'm looking up to you now. Thanks for reminding me what the importance of friendship is all about, and that no matter how hard life gets or is, the measure of a man is what he makes of his life not of what he possess.
