I don't know why when I go to book clubs, the women attending (it is almost all women) are envious that I am an author and are reluctant to know about my book. When they ask me what I do, I say I am an author. Then they ask, what kind of books I write. I give them a bookmark. But this is unacceptable by the group leader because she thinks I am trying to promote my book.
Of course, I will try and promote my book on every occasion but i don't go brandishing it when I meet people. Only when they ask what I do, do I venture telling them.
I find this very petty and bitchy. Instead of being glad that they have an author amidst them, they try to avoid the issue.
