Why Do So Many White Americans Refuse to Vote for a Black President? 9/18/2008 8:50:32 AM
The state-by-state polls clearly show the presidential election will be based more on ethnicity than on the issues or the qualifications of the candidates. You don't have to be a math whiz to see how the race between Barack Obama and John McCain is shaping up. Obama is doing OK in the more metropolitan states and states with large black populations. But in Utah, Kentucky, Kansas,Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Wyoming, Texas, Louisiana, West Virginia, even Pennsylvania, McCain is winning handily.
I find this clear evidence of the kind of lingering racial prejudice that shames America in the eyes of the world. I often hear mu Americans friends ask: Why don't foreigners like us? How can you expect to be liked by people who can see that you hold them and anyone who looks like them in contempt? I believe that the Mormomns used t believe black people were predestined to go to hell because they are descendants of Ham, who mocked Noash's nakedness. I doubt that any blackk person would want to become a Mormon if that's true.
Don't get me wrong. I chose to be American because I admire the sentiments in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States. But I am deeply saddened by the stark evidence of bigotry that persists to this day.
It may be time to re-examine the agreement between the states and to let some states form their own separate country - White America as opposed to the United States of America (e pluribus unum).
