In today’s modern, technologically driven society, why in-the-world would so many writers choose to pen stories about cowboys, Texas, and the western persona?

The answer to that question won’t be found in a history book, or a dictionary. Because the “Cowboy Lore” is all about our mental perception, how we imagine this bigger-than-life character to be.

He’s a mind-set, an attitude, a code. He personifies every quality our hero needs, hard working, kind, tough, and stands for something bigger than himself.

“Generally, you ain’t learnin’ nothing when your mouth’s a-jawin’.”

In a world with little or no moral stability, this character type stands steadfast in whatever task he’s taken on. He doesn’ t wine and he never backs away from trouble, especially if good people, or good principles, need defending.

He speaks softly to a child, honors another man’s possessions, and views a woman as God’s gift to man. When he loves, it’s forever.

In short, the ‘cowboy persona’ is a universal hero. Not always an easy characters for authors to write, but always enjoyed by their readers.
