I Didn't Know This Was In My Job Description 12/22/2011 11:19:02 AM
I have been very busy the last few months. I worked very hard to get my novel and Children's book e-book published in time for the two author events I had in October. As it turned out, my e-books didn't sell one copy as a result of these events. Instead, I was asked if my titles were going to be available in book format. This was not in my original plans since I had done my research and saw from my own book format books that traditional books just aren't selling well in today's market. Still, I was taught to live the motto "Give the customer what they want," so I relented. This wasn't easy.
Because the Children's book I wrote was supposed to be a Kindle exclusive I ordered black and white illustrations only. The minute they were done I regretted my decision because the very day I formatted my Children's e-book Kindle's colorized Kindle Fire was announced. Now I was sure I was going to wind up coloring my illustrations one way or another. This is why I decided to release a full color book instead of just black and white illustrations like my first Baby Jaimie book.
I wound up not using all the illustrations I ordered because I wound up re-drawing parts of illustrations and it was taking me forever. I never liked coloring as a child and as it turns out I still don't.
By Thanksgiving both of my books and e-books were released. Next came the daunting task of marketing and writing a speech I had to give last week. It was at this point I had a few moments to realize just how much work I was doing.
When I dreamed of a writing career I thought I'd just be writing books. Now I realize there is so much more involved. This definitely the career I dreamed of, it's better.
