Welcome back Family for another installment from my critically acclaimed novel "Daddy Doesn't Want to Dance Anymore". We hope you have been enjoying what we of Globally Speaking has been sharing thus far, this week we have taken a couple of pages out of chapter 5 "In the Presence of a Rare Breed". In this chapter our main character Lawrence McHenry is having a conversation with his client DeShawn King's brother to get a better understanding of  his client and his situation of being behind bars. In this conversation with King's brother the two are discussing the importance of having a strong father figure involved in their children's lives. Reginald King works in the department of Chicago Public Schools, his job is the overseeing of enrollment in Magnet Schools throughout the city.  

"This is where the confusion comes in because if your brother is crazy about his kids as you've just described. Why is he so content on remaining behind bars? Knowing he can probably do a lot more for them on the outside.” I stated.

“Mr. McHenry if I knew the answer to that question, I would tell you but unfortunately I don’t, so I can’t. My brother and I have had our fair share of heated debates regarding this matter and yet to this day I can honestly say that I've gotten nowhere in my attempts in trying to convince him in seeing it any other way. Mr. McHenry I’m at the point where I understand the importance of those kids having a father being involved in their lives because I see the ill effects of it everyday in my line of work. I see it by not having a strong father in a lot of troubled kids’ lives, no matter whether it is a boy or a girl. I’m not trying to take anything away from the mothers of the world but there’s nothing like having a strong man coming in and taking charge in insuring the development of their child’s future commanding, demanding, and expecting nothing less than absolute success of their children.” Reginald said

“So are you implying that the mother’s out here don’t?” I asked

“Of course not, however if you were to compare the two (a strong mother to that of a strong man or a strong father figure) the scales would totally tilt in the favor of the father when it comes to keeping these kids on the right track. Remember, I do emphasize strong father and not just the mere simulation of the male species, because there are a lot of men walking around out here with titles that they do not deserve. It’s because of that fact and that fact alone, that it has caused a lot of good men to be placed in the same category as these male impersonators I've just mentioned.It’s a damn shame how far to the extent I have to go to prove myself out here when I am in the presence of African-American women, for they cast off this aura of contempt towards me as if I’m the cause of their heartache and grief. Or maybe it’s just me, I don’t know, for how would I know since I’m not a mind reader and all? But I do know this, I’m not the only who feels this way for I've been in quite a few discussions revolving this matter with brothers from all walks of life from lawyers to garbage men.

Well I don’t want to get off the subject, the subject being the importance of having a good father being involved in their kids’ lives. I see it all the time how these kids manage to get away with murder because they just know their mothers’ or grandmothers’ is going to bail them out of any situation. Bailing them out by creating excuses justifying their kids’ mischievous behavior and I can’t say that I can honestly sit back and blame these women for their actions because I understand that it’s a mother’s nature to protect their young at all cost, regardless what they may have done. However, once the child gets hip to what is going on, the situation takes on a whole new life of it’s own, for the children begin to use this natural instinct of a mother’s love for the sole purpose of manipulation and exploitation.

These kids are very smart, much smarter than we’re willing to give them credit for. Within seconds they’re able to sniff out the weakness in your personality; and within minutes they've enabled themselves to push the envelopes far beyond your limitation before you’re able to realize what was going on. Unfortunately after the damage has been done by these little mischievous monsters, instead of the parents putting their foot down and nipping the situation in the bud they choose to submit to these kids wrong doing, causing the end result of allowing them to have their way with you. I've been doing this job for so long. I can instantly tell whether or not these kids are coming from a fatherless home. Lately I am beginning to see a change in my niece and nephew’s behavior as well, but more so in my nephew.” Reginald replied
