Daddy Doesn't Want to Dance Anymore Chapter 2
5/30/2013 8:30:27 AM

Another speak peak into one of the most controversial books written in recent years!

Welcome back for another selection of my Novel "Daddy Doesn't Want to Dance Anymore". This excerpt is taken from chapter 2 "You can Save the Intro" in this particular piece the leading character Lawrence McHenry  meets his client Mr. King for the first time and straight from the gates they clash. Enjoy!

After about twenty minutes or so, King entered the room escorted by two Cook County Sheriffs.

“He’s all yours, Mr. Mc Henry,” the sheriff informed me.

I was a bit taken aback by King’s appearance. He looked a lot older than I’d expected. He stood at least six feet tall and was sporting a real low haircut that had a few speckles of gray here and there. I could tell by his physique that he worked out quite a bit, because he had enormous arms that were covered with tattoos. The designs were quite impressive, especially considering the fact that he was a fair complexioned individual.

All and all, besides the age disparity between him and my former clients King still represented to me your typical inner city brother from the hood. What got my attention even more than that was his demeanor, for he was displaying this resilient air of confidence about himself.

I asked him if he would like to move closer to where I was seated but he declined, so instead I ended up moving from where I was sitting in so that I could be seated directly across from him. His decline to move pretty much set the tone for what was going to be in store for me that morning. I was a bit slow on picking up the vibe because shortly thereafter, I’d extended my hand out to greet Mr. King, and to my dismay he refused to accept my gesture.

“Okay then lets gets started, it shows here that you’ve been held here so far for six months now for non payment of child support correct?”

King didn’t return a response; instead he just sat there and pierced through me with his dark cold eyes, as if I’d done something wrong.

“Is there a problem Mr. King?” I asked.

King hesitated for a moment or two, and then responded.

“Why yes now that you ask. I’ve been praying for Jesus and in return, God sends me Satin!”

“Easy, King,” the Sheriff warned.

His response totally threw me off guard practically to the point of shaking me up a bit.

“I see, well would you prefer to have another attorney to represent you on this case?” I asked.

“Another attorney! Hell I’d never asked for one in the first place, because I already know there is not a damn thing you all can do for me.”

“I’m sorry that you feel that way, Mr. King. Truly I am.”

“Yeah, I just bet you are Suit.”

“Excuse me?”

“Haven’t you heard of the expression “the monkey in the suit?” I mean damn man, take a look at you, it’s quite obvious.” King explained with a smirk on his face.

Well I’ll be damn! This guy has the gall to insult me to my face when all I’m trying to do here is get his black ass out of jail.

“Well, you’ve made it perfectly clear here that I’m not the attorney for you. However, I don’t see the need for you to disrespect me in such a manner, especially when you consider the fact that I’m not the one who put you here behind bars, Mr. King. All I’m simply trying to do here is to help you, Sir.” I informed him.

“Oh I see, so you don’t find it disrespectful for an attorney not to look into the eyes of the client he’s supposed to be representing and you say you’re here to help who again?” King Asked.

“Good day, Mr. King and good luck with your case.” I said sarcastically, as I stood up out of my seat and made my way towards the door.

“Yeah, and f*** you, too!” King yelled in response.

Furious is the only word I could describe in how I felt once leaving that conference room. I just couldn’t believe how this low life son of a bitch insulted me the way he did. Instantly I wanted to tell the Judge the hell with King, let the no good bastard rot in jail, for he probably deserve what ever it is he got coming to him. Then I thought about it, to do such an act would probably play right into King’s hand for that is what he’d expect of me, hell that’s probably what he wants me to do. No way am I thinking; would I allow him to get the best of me, no way would I allow him to get off that easy by having the last word. I’ve come too far and worked to hard to just allow him to kiss my winning streak goodbye that easy. So instead, I decided that I would go to the judge and inform him that I had a briefing with my client and that we both decided that it would be in the best interest for everyone, if we could be granted a little more time to prepare. Since the judge was a pretty good friend with my father, it should not be a problem.

The problem however, will be finding the time to regain my composure, for my physique was a bit twisted with the thought of King right now. From his arrogance, all the way down to his broken English, I just couldn’t understand how I allowed this uneducated nigga to get underneath my skin.
