A Godly suggestion and a Country song! 1/5/2017 5:19:42 PM
A still small voice from God and a Country song made a connection today. Here is my blog about it. What does a Godly suggestion and a line from a current Country song have in common? An idea for a Story!!
Both came to me while driving to the place where my wife and I board our horses. The idea stayed with me until I got home several hours later. Suggestions for stories have come to me before while driving. Sometimes they are fleeting, though, and do not hang around long enough to make it to an actual written story.
This story was the result of putting those two things together and is a departure from my typical writing style. I am a humorist. My stories are always positive. This story has the positive message but has a darker story line. I sincerely believe God had His hand on me here. His message was clear. Once I got home and sat down at the computer, it took me about thirty minutes to write the story.
I know there is potential for more story, but I had the sense that the point was more important than the back story. I think I will work on developing a character and story around the point at a later date.
I hope you like it.
The Prayer
Jake, what’s the matter with you? Sitting under this tree bleeding out was not you’re plan. You have a wife. A child. They used to depend on you. You took pride in that.
Now look at you. Bloody gun in your hand. Finger on the trigger. Men chasing you. Shooting at you.
You robbed that bank and killed that teller for a little money. For What? To get that drug you thought would dissolve away your small troubles.
You cheated on your wife and blamed her for it. You denied God because you thought it easier to do your own bidding than His.
You always counted on the sun coming up every morning and going down every night. Now you’re never gonna see the sun come up again.
You’re gonna leave Emily and Hunter alone.
O’ Lord, I know I denied you. Lord, can you ever forgive my bad deeds. I know I am supposed to believe that you already do. I want to believe it. It may be too late, but I am asking for Your forgiveness. I accept the consequences.
They are coming for me. Guns blazing.
I surrender to YOU.
Lord, take care of my family. Forgive me Lord………

You’ll be alright, son. You’re home. All is forgiven.
