http://enforceminimumwage.blogspot.com/ America has been on the wrong track since 1970. You can put that statement on my tombstone. Most everything I write is based on this premise. As a diligent student of American pop culture, I have watched closely as the racially motivated, Right Wing Christian Fundamentalist Horde has increasingly joined forces with the Greedy Corporate Millionaire Republicans over the past few decades. This has most certainly been a marriage made in hell to those who hold a more logical, intelligent, progressive, and compassionate view of what America should be.
The Big Picture is the object of my fascination. This is not a story that is limited in its scope in any way. It ranges from the greed-mongering of The War on Drugs and the Enron Embarrassment to the corporate destruction of American art and culture to a war that was so obviously Vietnam The Sequel from its inception to the recent hurricane debacles. Bush does'nt give a Crawford cow pattie about poor, black people or the traffic nightmare of a large evacuation. The Fundamentalist Christians are secretly snickering over the ethnic cleansing of New Orleans. Cheney and Halliburton are counting their money before the hurricane damage is even over. Exxon wants to know just how high they can push the cost of fuel before Americans go berserk.
I know how they did it. I know what's the matter with Kansas because I grew up in rural Mississippi in The Sixties. My third book, The Last Horizon, is a detailed description of how they did it. There is a class system in the U.S. and Karl Rove knows how to manipulate it. It begins when we enter school and it stays with us for the rest of our lives. We have been selecting our leaders as if we were still in high school electing the President of the Senior Class. Is it any wonder that we wound up with a disgrace like George Bush as President, directed by an unscrupulous Karl Rove, whose only desire is to win every political contest? What happened to that other America, the one we grew up believing in, a country of true democracy and compassion in which upward mobility was a way of life?
