A letter from a fan that brought tears to my eyes. I got this letter from a fan today, and was touched. It's not fame, nor glory, or money I seek. Why? Because this to me, is the most priceless of every reward a writer can ever acquire or achieve. Thank you Barby.
Hi Ronnie,
Just wanted to write to you and let you know you have become one of my favorite authors and why. My mom has alzheimers. She is in the very late stages and doesn't know anyone. She doesn't communicate and is not aware of much. They have brought hospice in. Tomorrow we are meeting with them as to what our next step in her care will be.
My dad takes care of her at home with some help from my aunts and my son who lives there and then my brothers and sister in laws also pop in from time to time. I go over at night to help put her to bed. After we get her settled in bed I read short stories to her from one of your books on my kindle until she falls asleep.
Its hard seeing my mom like this. I had decided to read to her when I had remembered something from her highschool days. When they were giving a little description of the graduates in her senior yearbook and had described my mom they stated that she always had a story to tell and loved to read. I felt that this was the least I could do for my mom for the many things she has done for me. I wanted her last days to have something in them that she loved. Even if there is a hint of knowledge of what is around her then why not a good story that she would enjoy?
Thanks so much Ronnie for being a part of mine and my mom's special time together. Keep writing :)
