Keeping up with the business side. When I became a writer, I thought that was all I'd have to do: write! I have had to learn about the business side of things along the way. I have to keep up with Twitter, Facebook, and my own personal website. I have to keep promotional places updated, like Goodreads, Shelfari, Author Central, Manic Readers, etc. AuthorsDen is interesting because you can do a whole bunch of things here. This is one of my favourites. I've found out about Freado recently and am joining the Independent Author Network. I'm a member of several author groups now. It seems there is so much to do and so little time. I have Social Oomph now to help me manage my tweets. I feel I'm doing a hundred things at once. I also have to get author interviews and do book promotions. I've been working all day on the business side of things, but then I had planned to do so once I'd published my second book. I intended to spend some time focusing on promotion. I did a little bit on my third book yesterday, but today is all business. My goodness! I thought my brother was the business man in our family. I thought he was the entrepreneur. He's got his own business on Vancouver Island converting used cooking oil into BioDiesel. The oil not only does not end up in the dump, it is used as an environmentally friendly fuel. He's practically running Vancouver Island and parts of Vancouver, too. He's the money-oriented Taurus and I'm the daydreaming Pisces, yet here I am, focusing on the business side of promoting my dreams.
