Blogs by Eddie Thompson Back To Father's House 4/22/2006 7:36:57 AMLast night, I joined a young couple in the bonds of holy matrimony. The young man used to be in my youth group. He must be close to thirty now. He has truly taken the path of the prodigal son. The decisions we make in life can destroy us. They certainly scar us. The only consolation we have is that today there are more decisions to make. Today, you choose the path you will traverse from this point forward. There's nothing you can do about the past. Neither can you reach into the future and manipulate it to your liking. The only way to begin to shape your future, to make it better than the past, is to start making changes now. To begin the process of turning things around today. When this young man returned to Jena from his wanderings in the far country there didn't really seem to be much hope for him. He had sown so much wild seed that it appeared his future would be choked out by weeds and thistles as far as they eye could see. God worked a miracle in this man. He saw the life his dad, a very Godly, respected man in our community, was living and set a goal to one day be like him. The young man realized that all of his pursuit for the things of this world had left him abandoned and broken. His dad was living the dream of the Kingdom of God. So he set his goal to find happiness and peace, just like his dad. It hasn't been easy; nothing of worth ever is. Last night, looking into the eyes of the couple standing before me, I realized that miracles still happen. That the past can be swallowed up in the victory of faith today. That there is hope for all of God's children who remember the love, peace, and joy of Father's house and make the wise decision to do whatever it takes to get back to it.
