Blogs by Eddie Thompson Mrs. Louise 6/10/2008 6:47:28 AMI was sad to receive the call yesterday informing me of the death of Mrs. Louise Grissom. If you did not know her, Mrs. Louise was the mother of Diane Sumner. She was in Texas with her other daughter, Danita Kay, when she passed away. I've known Bob and Louise Grissom since I was a kid. My dad pastored them. I pastored them at Maranatha A/G. As long as I've known Mrs. Louise she's been crippled in her hands and shoulders with severe arthritis. Even as a young person, I had to be careful not to squeeze her hands too much when I greeted her at church. She substituted the normal passion one would put into a handshake by pressing her cheek against yours, bringing to my mind the charge to "greet the brethren with a holy kiss." A kiss from Mrs. Louise was always special. Always holy. In the old days, Bob and Louise would be in church every time the doors were opened. Diane would have to dress her and go to a lot of trouble sometimes to get her there, but Mrs. Louise wanted to be in the presence of the Lord and her fellow saints in Christ. Diane had to take care of most of her needs. She was unable to do much of anything; she poured all of her passion into the services and fellowship of the church. When she moved first to Wisconsin and then to Texas to be with her Danita Kay, we kept in contact with her. In fact, she was such a lover of the activities of the church that Laura Jean suggested we send her a copy of our church bulletin on a weekly basis. I'd write a short message on the back to keep her up on how much we loved her and still were praying for her. She treasured keeping up with our fellowship. You may not have known of her, but she knew of you. She knew when your birthday came. She knew when you were in revival or having fellowships. She knew when you were baptized, having communion, or electing board members. She was one of us, even though she was never able to sit here in service with us. For a very long time, she had not been able to take care of herself; so God gave her daughters and caring Christians who would. Mrs. Louise is crippled no more. She doesn't need anyone to help her eat or drink. She's not dependent upon anyone to help her get up. She's dancing before her Savior, arms outstretched in a way that I've never seen before, squeezing everyone and anyone she can grab ahold to. Today I understand a bit better the scripture in Psalm 116:15... "Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints."
