Our Part-time Pets 9/3/2016 1:58:43 PM
One early morning in May we awoke to a special sight. Four adorable little fox cubs were playing in our yard.
We watched them over a couple of weeks. Then one day left a bit of cat kibble out for them. Over a short time three of them finally left to mark off other territories. But the smallest, probably a female, stayed behind and became a daily visitor.
First it was kibble and then chicken and bread and occasional strawberries. She is here every morning and evening for food. She sleeps under a bush during the day. I am concerned she will be too dependent and not learn how to hunt. But I've seen her with a small animal. Then one morning we found a dead, partially chewed frog on our front step. She had never come that close to the house, so we figured she might be presenting it as a gift as cats sometimes do with mice for their owners.
She isn't the only part-time pet. There is a mother deer and two young ones that have grown up with Foxy. Now they are all grown. The deer will graze just a few feet from Foxy without fear and we enjoy photographing them.
