I've spent an awful amount of time over this past year becoming politicized. I look at some of my previous entries, only to realize that I cannot avoid the outside world in my poetry. It was a pipe dream. True, I haven't written anything of significance for you this past year and some months. I flip through my uncounted pages of notes and ideas every time I see one of my literary friends has posted a new piece. I feel hypocritical as I mentor a young poet, one who is full of passion but who needs grounding the art we embrace.
I must begin writing again. Screaming at the state of the world without speaking a word is futile. Chemical crutches only dull my voice. It's time to throw back the blankets.
