It’s important to remember
that many have far less than we have. With the busyness of Christmas approaching,
it’s easy to forget that others around us struggle; financially, spiritually,
physically.
I’ve been one of those
people. My little family was circling the drain after my husband suffered severe
injuries in a car accident. We had a three year old daughter and I was
terrified that we might not be able to provide for her. I had become the only
breadwinner. What I was paid didn’t buy us much bread or anything else. There
was so little hope on the horizon, and I didn’t know how to turn things around.
Thankfully Jesus did.
Starting right now, let’s look
at the faces that are in our orbit. I mean REALLY LOOK, to be conscious of the
needs around us. And when we see those
needs, we respond instead of looking the other way.
I wrote this piece after our
rough patch as a reminder of where we were, where we are now and how we might
move forward.
In Their Shoes
In times of chaos, of trial,
our minds gyrate like tops
What should we do?
Where on earth should we go?
In the midst of a muddle,
fellow sufferers fade.
As we inwardly focus
on our angst and pain.
But by giving to others,
finding peace in ourselves
we see all that we’ve been given.
By sharing God’s grace
walk a mile in their shoes
we will see perfection
in the fit of our own.
