Dear Diary,
Another highly tense day at the office. I’m not happy with the way some in the office are treating this horrendous act of violence. I think back to the sheltered life I lived not to long ago. In that sheltered life I lived through discrimination and fought the daily taunts and abuse. And yet, here I am again looking discrimination square in the eye. It is ugly. It makes me sick. Just like in my sheltered world I spoke against this foul creature. Its name is fear.
More and more facts are being discovered in what is beginning to look like the murder of three civil rights workers in Mississippi. The case is being referred to as Mississippi Burning. The facts are still forthcoming. The bodies of Chaney, Goodman and Schwerner have not been found. Their smoldering car has been found and the investigation is still being lead by John Sullivan. The White Knights of the Klu Klux Klan are impeding the investigation. Sullivan has been able to determine that the three men were released from the Nesohba County jail at approximately 10:00 PM. We know that the three men headed south on Highway 19. The people of this county are being very tight lipped. Bits and pieces of information are trickling in, some even by way of cryptic notes scribbled on crumpled paper, then salvaged, folded and slid under Sullivan’s door in the wee hours of the night. They are still working on the forensics of the CORE station wagon. The smoldering car made an appearance on the evening news. The forensic team is doing what it can considering some areas are still to hot to touch.
I have been working with Steve on this; collecting and noting evidence as it comes into our office. After overhearing some disturbing water cooler conversation between two other attorney’s in the office, I asked Steve to make a formal statement to those in our office. I wasn’t taken seriously. If it doesn’t stop, I may have to intervene. This needs to stop. We are charged with the most important responsibility to well and faithfully discharge the duties of this office. Their comments run counter to that and it is about time they realize it. If they don’t like it, they can leave and not let the door hit them in the ass on the way out.
I have some studying to do. It’s going to be another long and tense day tomorrow. My bar exam is next week. Until tomorrow…
